Time Flies, When You Are Recouperating!

Thanks for having patience! I had meant to start blabbing on again in early January, but life got really busy, and by the last week of January, I was in the hospital getting my face sliced up by a plastic surgeon. No, this wasn’t for vanity, but to fix (finally, I hope) a birth defect that has been unsuccessfully operated on a total of 18 times now. That’s no exaggeration either… I’ve literally been under the knife 18 times for various surgeries relating to this issue.

Pain has been dogging me for the three weeks that I’ve now been recovering. Unfortunately, I got a serious infection after surgery, and had to be re-admitted to VGH for another week, after an overnight stay at UBC hospital for the procedure. Fun? Not so much! The good thing is, however, that I’m healing nicely now, and with a load of foundation on my face, you can hardly tell that it was full of stitches only 3 weeks ago. The swelling will take some time to finally settle down, but it’s far better than it was during the whole infection ordeal. I learned that I hate morphine, and I hope never to have to deal with that yucky medication again!

My life has now settled back into the standard fare — which is great. I’m working a whole lot again, and really looking forward to several upcoming events… isn’t that what life is all about? I feel like smiling right now, but can’t really, but trust me, I’m beaming on the inside!

Back to the previous topic, one thing that was really great (great is a relative term, of course) about dealing with my recent surgery, was how my boyfriend really made sure I was taken care of afterwards. It’s nice to get that kind of confirmation about the significant other in your life when the chips are down. He was crazy, crazy busy that week with work (even more so than he normally is… and that says something) and yet, he still made sure that he was there every night before he went home, as well as ensured and arranged for friends to come over and keep me company when I was back at home recovering. I felt really special, and loved, because of his efforts. He’s a great guy… :)

Hmmm… well, believe it or not, I’m downtown in the office today, and I am supposed to be working on a project right now, so I should probably get back to that. I do promise to keep up my journal more regularily now that I’m feeling better!

Enjoy that sunshine out there, Vancouver!
