Adventure, updated…
Hmmm… So you want to hear about the rest of my adventure, hunting and gathering my new laptop do you? It started when I got up at 5am (after 1.25 hours sleep) and picked up Dee, who was entirely too cheerful at that hour I might add.
We drove alllllll the way down to Mt Vernon, and just as I was turning on to the appropriate exit, Airbourne Express calls.
“We’re sorry, Ma’am — We don’t have your shipment at our Mt Vernon office.”
“WHAT??” I exclaim with panic in my voice.
“It was given to our local courier and it’s in Canada right now, and it’ll be delivered to Point Roberts this afternoon”
I say… That’s not possible. You can’t just drive into Canada and then back into the States with a laptop — there’s broker issues.
“Let me call the local courier” He says.
I say… Give me the number… I’ll do it myself.
We start driving back to the border at that point, as it’s obvious the lovely city of Mt Vernon isn’t where we’re going to locate said laptop.
Finally, 15 minutes before Blaine, (right at the border) I get a hold of the local courier and convince him that even though the package has a different name on it, it is indeed MINE. (I mindfully printed off all of my receipts and emails from Dell just in case this happened) He calls his warehouse and calls me back and says they’ll release it.
Finally. Two blocks from the border, where we’d driven right by over an hour before, we find the warehouse and pick up the machine.
Might I add… I paid tax, on, get this… Texas sales tax. Talk about insult to injury — it didn’t even see Texas. I also paid our most excellent tax rate of 15.5% on the freekin shipping. I certainly felt robbed at the border — but at least I have the machine now (I’m even typing on it as we speak!! YAY!)
So… you are all probably wondering — How is it?? — It’s great!! I really do love this screen — it’s really wide, (similiar aspect ratio to a wide screen tv) and extremely sharp. The machine itself is smoking fast, and I’m loving the battery length of about 3.5 hours!!! Awesome.
Yes, it was definately an adventure, and I might think twice about ordering from Dell.com next time (I’ll stick with paying extra in Canada and remove the worry and frustration).
So there you have it. I’m busily setting up all my many programs and settings, and exporting data from the other Dell at the moment, so that I can present Deetria with her new laptop tomorrow night. I’m really excited for her as her current machine is a total nightmare.
Cheers all!

I hope you still wound up saving a pretty penny on the laptop though. There’s places out here you can get some skookin laptops for a good deal…well, maybe not as good, but I wanted to use ‘skookin’ in a sentence.
Oooooooo…. that’s gonna be my word of the day tomorrow
Woohoo!
That’s a ‘skookin’ word to utilize there, Harp… you rock. LOL!
I’ve a Dell laptop, they’re all I’ll ever use. Support is next to none.
Ya, Mark… I’m all about Dell, even with the insane support hoops I’ve jumped through in the past, not to mention the customer service issues I just went through. I still love their machines, and will still recommend the actual hardware to anyone who can support themselves
