Six more sleeps!

I’m starting to get hyper about my upcoming trip now! Jenn and I were talking the other night — She came downtown after work on Thursday night, and we went out to the Keg for some yummy drinks and appies — and since we’re both going on a cruise at the same time, we were talking about what we were looking forward to during the week of oceanic adventures! I said that I was most looking forward to the cool gym and yoga everyday, and she agreed. We’re both also looking forward to the incredible food, and the relaxation that comes with cruising. I’m definately looking forward to the nighttime shows, too.

Feeling a little better today, I’ve eliminated my daily intake of Tylenol Cold and Sinus tablets, which is helping with my clarity and energy level. Maybe I should have done that a day sooner, as I was definately on a bit of a high during my date last night. Note to self: don’t mix a glass of wine with cold pills… it’s just not a good thing. That said, though, he was actually a delightful guy who’s definately going places. It was the first time in my life that I have dated someone outside of my race — not that I have avoided it in the past, but, I just haven’t found any non-white people with similar likes and views on life I guess. He was, albeit more successful than I by a long shot, in a similar mindset to myself and had similar issues about most single people we’ve both met to date. It was nice to commiserate with someone who had experienced some of the same dating tribulations that I have experienced. It was a fun date, and I will definately look him up when I get back from my cruise to grab dinner or something. Good times!

I have another date tonight. Good grief. I thought I was finished with this for a while, but I have a bunch of people that I feel I should at least meet since we’ve taken the time get to get to know each other via email a bit. This guy is the veterinarian that I’ve been communicating with for a little while who lives near Bellingham. He seems really nice, quite funny, and definately can keep up with me. Who knows? As he’s driving a fair distance to meet me, I’ve decided to once again break my rules for him and have dinner tonight with him instead of just a drink or coffee. I’m sure it’ll be a good time… I got a good feeling from his emails, and he has such nice eyes. I think you can tell so much from looking at someone’s eyes actually, don’t you?

Vern and I are getting out dancing later tonight — that should be a blast! I think we’ll head to a local bar and avoid the slight, but ever present, potential of seeing some violence at a downtown nightclub. Vern’s sister was bartending at Loft 6 the night all the bullets were flying and three people died a couple of Fridays ago. I have a strong suspicion that there will be some retaliation coming up at one of the other bars downtown for that gangland-style mess. That’s so sad. This is not the safe Vancouver I know! I actually quite like the club that is walking distance from Vern’s condo anyhow, so I don’t mind taking in the music and good times there tonight.

Well, I’d better get the rest of my work done this afternoon, so that I can go on my date tonight and not worry about having to come in tomorrow, too. I really need a day off to clean the house, and take care of personal stuff for my trip coming up… in six more sleeps :)

I think you might want to watch “Bowling for Columbine” and not contribute to the mass media’s proliferation of fear. Not going out just because someone *might* get shot is kind of ridiculous. You have a far greater chance of being killed in a car accident or crossing the street on your way to the club/bar/etc than you do of getting shot whilst in the establishment. We’re not like the US where one in 3 people pack heat… And thank god for that! Hey, hope you’re having/had a good time on your cruise! I’m outta here on the 16th on my caribbean island-hopping tour. I’ll be hitting Puerto Rico and Trinidad on my way down to Suriname. Sometimes I really love my job! LOL!
