28th hour, and counting! (Please, take me out of my misery)
Someone, please, kick me in the head. Maybe then I’ll pass out. Ya, that’s right, right in the temple where it’ll do be some good.
You know, I’ve never, ever had a day (er, days if you count the merging of them) like yesterday/today. I’ve always heard of people talking about EVERYTHING that could possibly go wrong, go wrong — And I’ve had a few days where it kinda felt like it was going that way — BUT NO. I can say, without a doubt, everything that was able to go wrong, did…. yesterday/today. Um, almost everything — The car was last week.
I just couldn’t catch a freekin’ break. Not one. Over the past several days, I’ve learned to HATE my laptop. I used to love it, until I tried to do something that not everyone does on laptops… Edit video, and layer audio. What a pathetic pile of crap my machine is for that. BLECH. I really mean it. Peice of SHIT. I was actually missing my old laptop last night. I’ve edited literally hundreds of video for other clients, but none yet on this machine. Delayed frustration, that’s all I can say. Simply put, it didn’t work. I thought it was my USB driver, which couldn’t be freekin’ updated unless I put XP SP1 on my machine… fine, so I did that. No… it wasn’t that. Then I thought I had bad external hardware, so I went and bought a $500 external usb 2 video capture device. Nope, that didn’t work either, so I thought maybe it was just that hardware, as hell… it couldn’t be my BRAND NEW DELL.
Ya. So, I went into the office at 5pm yesterday, thinking, after buying a PCI capture device, that it would just take a few minutes to capture the video and then take it home to edit. I bet you can guess… Right… No. I had picked the WRONG machine, not once but twice. The guys at the office certainly DON’T keep their machines running very well, and it wouldn’t run the hardware right either. I finally, at MIDNIGHT started capturing video on the third machine that would actually run the hardware and run the Premiere Pro correctly. Seems it was my machine, after all, and I didn’t have the only machine that couldn’t take the pressure. (We have some nice machines at the office, you’d think they’d run better.)
So, I finally got *barely enough* of my project done to be passible as a first draft for my client at 9am this morning. It was almost embarrassing sending it out, really, but I also knew that he’d want it all changed anyhow… He just needed to see it all together to agree that it wasn’t working the way it was.
How freekin’ frustrating. So, it’s now NOON. I’m so overtired, (and still not feeling well) that I can’t sleep.
I must say though… Vern rocked as a friend last night. He really did. He had a date at 7pm which apparently went quite well, and when he returned to the office at 10pm, he stayed to keep me company until 2:30am, and even helped to finish off a project for Deetria, who needed it to be printed at Kinkos for school this morning. What a great friend. Really.

you should’ve imposed…and of course, it wouldn’t be imposing at all
I had problems on my XP running my edit suite, but one of the windows updates is apparently bad for editors. You gotta uninstall one of the quick fixes (I think it’s the one that ends in ’414′ in the add/remove programs menu)
Hi Harp!
Yes, I read about that particular update, and I looked, but don’t have it installed on my system. I don’t want to uninstall SP1, as it’s fixed my usb 2.0 capabilities, but it’s a CRAPPY service pack otherwise, let me tell ya. My system was running far better, and with the proper DMA settings before I did anything to it.
Sigh. Sometimes you just can’t win with MS.
Oh well. The other computer here in the office with a gig of ram seems to be running the Premiere Pro suite without issue, so I’m in the office day and night til I finish it, I guess. (I’m getting there…)
Thanks again for the offer — Yer sweet!!

Sometimes??
My partner has many days like this. MS is at the root of about 80% of them. Glad to see you got it sorted at the end. Good will triumph.
