A whole new world!

Wow! DID I SLEEP LAST NIGHT!

(place slightly guilty look here)

We slept until 1pm!! Wow! I certainly nee3ded the sleep update, though, after yesterday’s marathon. The good thing is that we’ve completely acclimatized (or at least I have) to the 9 hour difference in time already, and feel ready to start our adventure without foggy heads.

David, Jeremy’s cousin, took us for an afternoon drive… which was neat — I got to see a lot of the Southern English countryside, and then we headed to Fareham shopping centre to do a little banking before heading on to Whitely Village to grab a Starbucks. I must say, their Starbucks here is NOT the same as the Starbucks in Vancouver. What a huge disparity in the menu alone, let alone the lingo… That said, once we got espressos ordered, it was a welcome infusion of caffeine!

Afterwards, we headed over to Titchfield Abbey — Built in 1232!! as a monastery and partially destroyed in the 1500s. We took some time and explored the remains of the structure and surrounding land, and were in awe by it’s beauty and history. (I promise to post pictures in the photo gallery as soon as I’m at a computer to do so!) What amazing history this land has… Everywhere you look, there’s more ancient structures. In fact, a new structure here is harder to find than one which is older than Canada. What a scary thought.

Afterwards, we took a drive through the country roads of Portsdown Hill and into Portsmouth, where we stopped in at Gunwharf Quays and ate some dinner at The Old Custom House on the water. It was a beautiful night for it… A little blustery, but I didn’t expect anything different for the coast of England.

Once we got back to Allan and Eilene’s we watched the English national football team lose to Sweden on TV… Football at it’s worst (Although, if Anders was watching the game being held in Gothenburg, I doubt he’d agree.) Sigh.

It was a full first day of seeing the sights… and now I must head to bed!

  • hey – whiteley village?? my grandfather went to that (his last name is whiteley) and there is a bust in the middle of the town which he had a profile shot of himself vs bust and there was sooo much resemblance (esp the nose which thankfully I didn’t inherit) – maybe it’s the same one you speak of?

I’m sure it’s none other than the same place! I think I have one pic of the place — I’ll place it up later today!
