The dating game.
First, a Deep Thought… Just because!
“During the Middle Ages, probably one of the biggest mistakes was not putting on your armor because you were “just going down to the corner.”
- Jack Handy
It was a night of conversation at Zigz last night. Jenn and I hadn’t been there in a while, so off we went to share a few moments (errr… many moments) over a glass of wine or in Jenn’s case, Rye on the rocks. We had much to talk about as usual, the least of which being the few dates I’ve been on recently. I’ve determined that I can’t date anyone who’s even begun their 40th year — There’s just such a disperity in lifestyle. Perhaps it was just the one guy — He certainly was good looking — But I felt the conversation (albeit upbeat) was forced, with me asking all the questions. A couple of things have to happen, in my books, for me to be interested in a second date:
- I have to be attracted to the guy.
- The guy needs to show some enthusiasm for meeting me before the date… This includes being proactive in suggesting a location and time to meet. I’m kind of old fashioned that way. So sue me.
- The guy needs to be an active participant in the dialogue, including at least showing some interest in what I’m all about.
- I have to laugh a few times during the date — Heck, this isn’t a job interview! It shouldn’t feel like one.
- And, finally, the guy has to show an immediate indication after the date that he enjoyed his experience with me — Even a quick email would do nicely!
Is this all too much to ask? I don’t think so.
Here’s the email I received from my coffee date yesterday… I guess he realized he didn’t ask me any questions (That I can recall, anyhow).
Hello Tanya,
Nice to finally meet you today.
I enjoyed talking with you and look forward to hearing more about what interests you have and what you do.
Thanks for a nice talk.[name removed]
Ahh… And the dating adventure continues. Check back. I’ve already got a few stories I’m saving up for a rainy day. [Place silly grin here]
