Dare to dream!
Tonight was all about celebrating the home purchase of friends… My brother’s friends to be precise, but I’m hoping that Tod and Sherrie will also become closer friends of mine as well. They purchased a house in the 50th Ave. area of Vancouver about 6 months ago, and I’ve been looking forward to seeing it ever since. I remember when they first bought it — How excited they were to “garden” in the back yard, entertain their friends, and make it their home. It’s a beautiful house, and it definitely lives up to expectations…
It was all about plants for gifts tonight (yea, me included) — I had to laugh as every single person I saw come through the door had a plant of some kind in their hand. You *really* can’t imagine how funny this is, until you realize how many people showed up tonight… Literally, I stopped counting at about 85. I’m not kidding.
Sadly, the weather didn’t co-operate, and the guest list was so enormous, so Tod and his friends got busy putting up tarps and an event tent in the back yard to accomodate everyone… and it worked out really well! On top of the rest of the arrangements, they’d had a shooter tower carved out of ice for everyone to enjoy… (I’d never heard of it either, until I saw it!)

…and ENJOY they all did! Everyone was partaking in the harder alcohol it seemed, besides me, who decided I’d had enough fun with a couple of beer without getting “sloshed” on an enormous amount of shooters. I, therefore, became the designated driver. To be honest, though, I didn’t have any problem with this. Moderation has been my middle name as of late. I’m glad I was able to fascilitate the fun of others! I was living vicariously through them.
Alas, my point… Tod and Sherrie have a beautiful home, in the heart of the residential area of Vancouver, and I couldn’t help but dream about the possibilities before me. Someday, with the right guy, I too could have a home like that — Nothing ostentatious, just comfortable, and homey. Perfect for a couple starting out. I love that dream. I’ll have it one day.

I’m buying a farm in Alberta. Will that do?
Lol – Sounds like just what any urban woman would want. A place to work her fingers to the bone.
I really liked the ice sculpture. That was a lot of fun. Now, of those 85 people how many were single????? No ONE present company excluded. Rahh… whats this city coming to???
Congrats on the change in scenery Mark! I know that’s right up your alley!
There were several single guys there last night Vern — Perhaps you need to consider going to “the darkside”? LOL!
shooter tower? damn, I sure missed out! heh
oh and when you have your house warming, I will be sure to NOT bring a plant!
I consider being a hetrosexual single male in Vancouver to BE the Dark Side…. thank you very much. So, if I could, I would, but I can’t, so I wont.
[The theme to "Little House on the Prairie" playing in the background]—-
White picket fence, 4 bedroom house and the SUV with a red sports car parked in front. kids playing street hockey in front of your driveway. Tied to the Bank for the rest of your lives…… awhhhhhh the dream
