GMAIL! Get your gmail accounts!

Hey everyone! I have five more invitations for gmail accounts — Who would like one? I’m really liking my new account, as I can receive up to 10 mb per message, there’s no tagline included when I send a message out, and there’s 1 gig of storage space per email account.

Sounds like a great deal to me. I only get 2 mb on my hotmail account, and the stupid thing expires after 30 days… The gmail won’t expire for 9 months if you don’t log in all the time.

So, the invites go to the first five commenters to say they want an account! Get them while they’re hot!

ps: Comment spammers suck. I spent over one and a half hours this morning removing 124 spammed comments in my blog. Nice. [[jerks]] I’m now trying to figure out how to disable html in the comment code so that there’s no point in spamming my site. (For those of you who wonder why spammers utilize comments on blogs, it’s to get their relevancy up on Google and similar search engines — The more independent sites that link to their stupid casino, sex, and pharmacy sites, the higher their ranking gets).

You can follow any responses to this entry through the RSS 2.0 feed. Both comments and pings are currently closed.

That’s the last one! They’re all gone! Let me know if you are interested in my next set of invites that I’ll get in a few days I’m sure…!

Yes. Spammers suck indeed. This probably doesn’t help you mut movable Type has a great feature called MT Blacklist. The constantly update a list of thousands of spammers that you simply update to your own Blacklist and voila, no more spammers. I use to block based on IP which is useless. This blocks by the spammers email account (which is where thier real link is, not in the message). Anyway, for anyone using MT, check it out.

T, was your server up and running in the last 24 hours? Mine was down for the last 24 hour due to that freak wind strom in Langley/Surrey. Humm, cut off from cyber space… so bad….

Anyway, my server has anti-spamer software and also my BLOG program has some plug-ins that do a prety good job… but boy can I see that problem! Mine is getting hit too… :(

  • nelly says:

thank you :) perhaps i can return the favor sometime!

shnewt — I simply disabled the “a” tags in my comments, and suddenly the onslaught of comments ceased! Gotta like that! I’ve considered other hacks, and comment systems (I serve my own currently) and they all have their little issues… I think I’ve got this one pretty much licked now. I’ve previously increased the time allowed between posts, and that helped some as well.

Tom — Nope, all of my power and servers were just fine. I did hear about the freeky weather out there, though!

    Nelly — ‘Twas my pleasure!

  • todd says:

Hey, I was very so sure that the GMAIL guys read all your emails so they can send you crap or use you for studies. I was sure that was the one thru Google.
Check it out man!! No privacy

  • todd says:

ps. you have way too many email addresses and phone numbers. hehe

  • NetChick says:

    Not correct…

Gmail only uses an auto scan feature to provide relevant ads based on email content. No one “reads” NOR shares your information or email content. It’s just the same as google ads you see on a bizzilion sites out there. The ads are based on content on that page.

There’s no security issue to be concerned about. Privacy laws and a clearly laid out privacy agreement is readily available on Google’s site.

Yeah – I’ve been battling comment spammers as well. I’ve found that the easiest way to bulk get rid of comments is actually from the sql command line. I don’t know what blogging system you’re using, or if you have access to the database that runs it but if you do, you can get rid of a lot of info very very quickly.

Gmail account? Sounds interesting. No biggie if you want to keep them for friends. If you have a spare, I’d happily take it.

    Thanks!

  • NetChick says:

Hi Colin! One gmail account for you coming up! I’ll use the email address you provided above, unless you’d rather have me send the invite somewhere else.

And… I’ve now disabled a href tags from my comments which makes it pretty useless for spammers to upload a bunch of links that will no longer function.

Hopefully, that solves my spamming hell that I’ve been in for the past two days!
