Becoming more involved!

I’m off to go and try to give a significant amount of my free time away, for the next year. That’s right, I’m running for the Executive Committee of the Rowing Section at the club. Why am I doing this, you ask? Because I believe I can do a fantastic job of Public Relations and Fundraising for the club — I’ve got plenty of experience, and I’ve always been someone who likes to be involved in more than a “taking capacity” with whatever I do. I love spending time at the club, both rowing and socializing, and I believe I can help make it an even better place by volunteering my time there.

So, wish me luck. I have no idea if I’m running against anyone, or even how the vote will take place. All I know is the Annual General Meeting can be long and arduous, but that taking part in the process is worth it to ensure the funds available to the rowing section are spent where they are needed most within the next year’s budget. Should be an interesting evening, to say the least.

Perhaps I’ll update the blog later, if I get in at a reasonable hour!

UPDATE: Hear that? That’s the sound of my free time quickly rushing out the window! Just kidding… I was uncontested in my run for PR/Fundrasing Officer, (should I be concerned??!?) so I’m ready to jump aboard and make a difference! Corree is also on the board co-chairing the Social Coordinator position as a voting member, so it’ll be some good times at the monthly executive meetings!

By the way… I’ll be looking for some unique ways to promote and fundraise for the club — If anyone has any ideas, fire them off in a comment or an email, as I’m all ears!

Well, you should challenge the Fort Langley Rowing Club to a Row-Off and take pledges on who can out row each other. Say, $10.00 for 25 KM. Each team in there respectful clubs would try and raise the most money. Losers would treat the other team to Beer and Spaghetti night.

You should see the club out here, they have their own building right on the banks of the Fraser. I can actually see their building from my place.

    Anyway, just a thought. Remember I don’t row…

You are going to make a kick-ass PR / fundraising person! I think our first priority should be to raise enough money so we can have our exec meetings at a different steak house every month.

Heheh… Cor, that’s a great idea. I know we can get a couple of other swing votes to make this happen! Our first order of business! ;)

Jen — Super duper cool! I’d be so interested in seeing it. I remember your efforts, and success, and would love to see the materials!

Tom and Nelly… Great ideas! If you think of anything else, let me know!

ps: Tom — VRC (Vancouver Rowing Club) has the oldest, and by far the best, clubhouse of any rowing club out there. We even have two bars, and the best patio in the city overlooking Coal Harbour… You should come down and check it out sometime! VRC has been around for over 100 years!

I don’t have time or the stuff right now – but if I happen to forget, email me and remind me to send you all my fundraising materials from last summer.

Well, I can’t boast for the Ft. Club, because I never go there. Preferably, either sails or a 1200CC Gas guzzling engine in the only way I like to be prepped through the water. Although sometimes I wish I had rowing boat when on BC Ferries. *gag* But I’m gladd you liked the idea.
