Looking forward to…

I start my BC Safety Council course tomorrow night — It’s the theory part of the course for three solid hours, before I move on to the main, practical part of my motorcycle training. I’m a little panicked, because I haven’t written the exam for the class 6 learner’s license yet, and I need to have it for tomorrow night. I’ve kinda run out of time.

Hmmm. I guess I should read the “RoadSense for Riders” guide tonight at some point so I can actually write the test and pass tomorrow. No lunch for me, I guess.

I’m really looking forward to finally hopping on my new (yet-to-be-purchased) bike and ride legally! Apparently, I have to wait 30 days from the time I get my learners to take the test, which is a bit annoying. Oh well. It won’t be long now.

On a different topic, I was wondering what you guys thought I should do for a housewarming at my first (all-mine) home! I can’t believe I’m even admitting to that fact… 34 years old, and I’ve NEVER lived by myself. Craziness. So: Should I…

  1. have a shwanky martini party
  2. have a theme party of some sort
  3. have a casual beer & pizza gathering
  4. put together a potluck
  5. have a wine & cheese party
  6. have a formal dinner

I’m not sure… They all sound good. What do you think?

I couldn’t help notice that one of the votes was for a party of ‘martians’. When did this become one of the options? :)

Yes, you have to wait 30 days, but you should be able to get your MST done via the course… which leaves you with only two restrictions: no riding after dark (which I completely ignored… heh) and no carrying a passenger (which was no problem, I didn’t feel ready for that for a few months anyway.)

I didn’t actually get my full license until about 4 months after I started riding full time. In the summer, this is pretty easy as it doesn’t get dark until quite late.

The only other suggestion: When you do decide to learn to take a passenger, take someone who’s an experienced rider. It’s not hard, but In Case Of Emergency, it’s a good idea to have someone who has an idea of what to do already. (I learned with a 6′, 200lb guy on the back. Worked like a charm — if I can carry someone nearly twice my size, I can carry anyone!)

You could have 6 housewarming parties. Why not?

I never got around to having one, myself. Though I might set up a catwarming party soon.

  • NetChick says:

Right! Thanks for the reminder, Donna — I had completely forgotten about that MST part! (and, thanks for all your tips!)

Gill — I knew someone would suggest that! ;) I guess you got to it early. Of the six, what’s your favourite? And, are you getting a new cat??

You won’t have any trouble with the test, approach the questions conservatively, and you’ll be fine.

Just got back from a “New Rider” social at the Flying Swan in Kits. Good place to meet fellow newbies, and chat with more experienced riders. Found out about it at bcsportbikes.com, in the fora. It will be happening every second Monday, 7-9pm.

We can talk this weekend, and sort out timing for the course. The theory session, doesn’t reaqlly cover too much, but you definitely need your Learner’s by Monday.

Why don’t people have toga parties anymore?

  • NetChick says:

Ah, yes… The inevitable ‘toga party’ suggestion. Consider it added to my Stupid Question sidebar! You guys should come if you are still in the city when I have whatever party/parties I’m having. I’m thinking either early March or late March, depending on when my furniture arrives!

  • col says:

i’m coming in here a bit later, but i like the idea of two parties (naturally).

  • NetChick says:

Yes, naturally, you would Col ;)

I’ve decided it will be two parties… It’s only right. Besides, my place isn’t huge, so 2 parties might be better, anyhow.

  • CheshireCat says:

Martians!!! Bring on the Martians!! (as if my vote would ever be in doubt)

  • cats are smrt – i second the vote for martinis!!! let’s make ‘em NYC strength too! ;)

  • brain-girl says:

I think you should make the type of house-warming party your next poll question!!!

  • NetChick says:

    hehe… You read my mind!

Thanks for the input guys — Sounds like I might be having two parties: 1 housewarming, 1 get-together! hehehe… Darn, hey?

  • heather says:

i’m all about the lazy: beer & pizza!

you could combine it with a theme and tell everyone to wear plaid flannel…

  • Jen says:

I too am all about the beer & ‘za. More importantly though, you must invite your single man-friends! I hear you’re a good matchmaker… hook a sista’ up!

  • NetChick says:

…That would be ‘martinis’, Song! ;)
