40 GB of iPod Goodness!

Mmmmm iPOD!!
40 GB iPOD Goodness!

Okay. This is definitely my last big purchase. Well, it was actually a real deal on eBay… A used iPOD, 40 GB, 3rd Generation model that is slightly scratched up. Normally, I don’t like buying used electronics, but this was such a great deal. I wouldn’t have purchased it for the current retail price of $399 USD, that’s for sure. I worked so hard last month on a project, that the remuneration from it will more than cover the cost of the item, and now I can turf all of my CDs!

Yay for less clutter!!

Does anyone have any tips for me, when ripping my collection for the iPod? I’ve got about 300 cds… Not to mention a whole collection of mp3s that I’ve burnt over the years…

Do NOT get rid of your CDs, unless you’ve got a great data archiving regimen. Check out “Exact Audio Copy” & LAME encoder combination. Slow, but incredible rips, do a higher bit rate, e.g. 256-320.

    Oh yeah, enjoy it.

when ripping them for the iPod, don’t rip them into any proprietary format like iTunes and Media Player both like to do — the proprietary Media Player files won’t play on your iPod, and to be frankly, it’s annoying being stuck with only one program even if the iPod *does* play them.

    Proprietary mp3′s suck!

Damn! I’ve got a 20 gig and it is by far the most used appliance I’ve got.

You have to check out things like podcasting (think audio blogs).
