Say goodbye to millions in Africa
[shaking my head in disgust]
More of the same. Benedict XVI… “The Enforcer” (and former German Nazi) has just joined the ranks of the past to become the new Pope. What were the members of the conclave thinking? Did language get in the way? Forget progress, kids. This guy’s even less likely to help those many millions of Africans that have AIDS, and are Catholic. Condom use against the Catholic Church’s wishes? With this guy governing the masses, even the Nuns who are currently handing out condoms anyhow may likely be under fire for the caring they are trying to provide.
I have only one positive thing to say about all of this. He’s not my leader.

Hey..found your site via heliboy. Nice webcam view!
One thing…Not a Catholic (by a long stretch) but watched the emergence of Joseph Ratzinger as the new Pope. Lets give the guy a chance! Also, calling him a Nazi is waaaaayy off base. Boys over the age of 10 were compelled to join the Hitler Youth. It was join or be declared an enemy of the state and imprisoned. Most likely in a concentration camp.
I agree that the church has to modernize but since I work in Africa and have for the last 13yrs..it’s gonna take more than condoms to change things here. But it would be a start!
Cheers from Southern Sudan
Cool, looking forward to that.
SPAM——–no thanks, I’ve eat’n already…..*burp*
Hey Tom! Don’t get me going on the Pope issue — I’m still very frustrated from this morning’s happenings.
Glad you like the webcam! It takes absolutely no bandwidth of mine at all… The photo is directly from http://www.katkam.ca — With permission. I also don’t have a refresh on my page, so the photo only updates when you refresh manually. (and again, the photo comes directly from KatKam’s servers) If you want to see a larger version of the amazing images fed from there, just click on the thumbnail.
I’ve decided to re-institute my own webcam at home, but I’ll still have the KatKam image available as well for the outdoor scenery. Besides, the Vancouver scene is far more interesting than peeking at my tv-watching habits. Nonetheless, I’m putting it back up soon, anyhow.
HUmmmmm. I never keep up on these things…. esp. the Pope. I gues I should, being that the Catholic Church is somthing like the 8th super power in the world? But ya, good for you for bringing that up–you got me thinking?
Oh, I like the WebCam. That is really cool! Does it suck up alot of bandwidth on your server… and, will you get your own: “showing the streets of Vancvouer of course”! =)
SPAM——-no me
Welcome RD! I thank you for your thoughts — And, perhaps my information was wrong, but according to the info I’ve read, Benedict XVI was not only in the Hilter Youth, but he was also in Hitler’s army serving as a prison guard. I certainly wouldn’t use the term Nazi lightly, but that’s exactly what he was.
Here I go again with the Hitler arguments… It always seems to come back to that evil being, doesn’t it? (Or, at least it seems to in my world.)
ps: Glad you like the Vancouver webcam — Did you mean Rotorboy’s blog link? (aka Roger?) I bet you have tons of stories, given where you are located!
Thanks….hope you got the coffee stain out!..There’s a product at liquor stores called ‘wine away’ Designed for red wine removal….i’ve found it very usefull for things like coffee.
Yep., lotsa stories! Been in Africa for the last 14yrs. Everywhere from Somalia, Rwanda, Gabon, Cameroun, Equatorial Guinea, Morocco and now Sudan.
Thot i’d cut and past this quick bio on the new pope. I’d still be very careful about using the term ‘nazi’ . Remember..there’s a difference between ‘joiniing’ and being drafted under the threat of death or imprisonment. (my family is German…believe me, those drafted in the dying days of WW2 were no nazis..and internal security was the charge of the SS. This included national service. As a cardinal, Ratzinger spoke out loud and clear about the atrocities of nazi germany. Anyways…hope the carpet goes well! and by the way….jut got my 9yr old daughter into rowing. Great sport.!!
Born in Marktl am Inn, in Bavaria, Germany, Ratzinger entered a preparatory seminary in 1939. In 1943, at the age of 16, he was, along with the rest of his class, drafted into the Flak or anti-aircraft corps. He went into basic training for the Wehrmacht infantry in November of 1944. In 1945 he was INTERNED in a POW camp as a German soldier. By June he was released, and he and his brother (Georg) re-entered seminary.
You can find a very good bio piece on wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Cardinal_Ratzinger). For information I generally trust wikipedia, because it is normally referenced very well, and because content is governed by the users – if you’re wrong, someone will edit and correct your entry for you.
You seem quick to judge this man. It is very difficult to judge people who lived through times that we cannot imagine, yet most people always assume the worst. Being forced to act or face death is very different from being an active participant. Were there any truths to the nazi allegations, it is more than likely that they would have been vetted out before he got this high in the church
