Tanya the (non-)typist
Yesterday evening, Tanya had a slight mishap with her 650 cc’s of Suzuki goodness. The important part of all this is that she’s fine, relatively speaking. But she won’t be typing much in the next few days, nor can she be counted on to try out for the speed walking team.
We were in St. Paul’s for several hours last night, and there will be many follow ups with doctors on this one. For those of you who ride, I can tell you (as someone who has been riding for about 17 years) that she made a snap choice to down her bike , and in the same situation I would have done the same thing. It was that, or go endo. For those of you who find the above to be slightly more cryptic, I can tell you that she was practicing some manoeuvers(sp?), and ended up going down at about 55 kph. She slid into a cement retaining wall, but did NOT get hit by the bike, nor did she bounce. She has some nasty road rash, and possibly a broken tibia. She was wearing a full face helmet, boots, and a heavy leather motorcycle jacket (my old one). They were the difference.
For now, Tanya is relaxing. She is resting, and she is medicated. I would ask that you do NOT bombard her with phone calls asking how she is, unless you are family. Emailing her is good, but don’t expect a quick reply. If you absolutely MUST have more information, and sooner rather than later, send ME an email. If you know the number to my super-secret Batphone, use it. I’ll be happy to correspond with you, and we can both ensure Tanya gets the rest she needs. In her inimitable fashion, she’ll let us all know when she’s ready to pick up the pace of life a little.
