Random acts of kindness
“When you get, give; when you learn, teach!”
— Oprah
I’m on a mission now. That short encounter the other night really woke me up. It reminded me a of a few things that stuck with me from a couple of years ago… Remember that movie: “Pay It Forward” and, not long after, Oprah had an episode on about the same topic.
So, I thought to myself, I haven’t gone out of my way (other than to contribute to charities) to do something completely random and thoughtful for a friend, or a stranger for that matter, in a long time. Sure, we all do nice things for people every day, but when was the last time we actually went out of our way to do something truly special to make someone’s day out-of-the-blue?
I put forward this challenge: Think of someone who could use a thoughtful gesture, and go ahead and do it. Perhaps it’s your next door neighbour who’s elderly and could benefit from a visit, or, maybe it’s your pregnant friend who would love to have your maid come in for an hour or two to help out because she’s exhausted — It doesn’t have to be expensive… Just take a moment and do something special for someone else.
I already have a few ideas for myself to provide a random act of kindness.

Tan, you’ve been sick. You got in a motor cycle accident for fucks sake. I would hope that people who read this blog and know you, understand that and cut you some slack. I still love you. and I know you love me.

…so much for all this being about “random acts of kindness” — How did this turn into a negative commentary on my not getting back to people recently??
I know something that is a random act of kindness, I would say, return phone calls and emails in a more timely manner”
hehe..
y know, i am just a buggin u!
lov t!
Doing nice things for people always make you feel good about yourself,
Hmmm… Maybe you should talk to D more, (as I’ve said in the past) — I always return your emails and phone calls in a ‘timely manner’.
Then again, my brother could always make time to come out and see me, too, right? …The last time you were over at my place was March.
But, who’s counting?
Love,
T.
‘Ello Mrs Johnson!! Wot can I carry for you today? How about one of your grocery bags!? Beaut-i-ful day isn’t it Mrs Johnson!? Is that your cat Mrs Johnson?! Its a right nice cat, I’d say… Rather looks a bit like the cat I hit yesterday. Notice, its walkin a bit funny Mrs Johnson! Right Mrs Johnson, I will be leaving now then. ‘Ave a fabulous day Mrs Johnson
Why would you say talk to D more? This has nothing to do with me!
Sure it does! I often talk to you, and Todd thinks I’ve not gotten back to him about something coming up, when I’ve already confirmed with you via email.
Give me a break I think he is talking about you not calling Ash back. I do pass all messages along to him via email.
…Well, my blog is certainly not the place to discuss it.
And, I talked to her in person. And, I told you both, as well as wrote in my blog, that I wasn’t feeling well (you both know that I was in a great deal of pain), and no one got calls back in a timely manner 3 weeks ago. Please try to understand.
Guilt: Rather than having a positive response on me, it does the opposite. It makes me run screaming in the other direction.
