EEEK! Road test, ON MONDAY!
I called up ICBC today to see when I could get my road test booked for my Class 6, because surprise, surprise… Their online booking system wasn’t working. When I finally got through, the woman kindly told me that I’d have to wait until (drum roll please!) late NOVEMBER! Uh, hello, we get snow in November sometimes. How about no?
Then I remembered that the Safety Council has ICBC come in a few days a week to do tests for their students, for a measly $25 fee on top of the road test fee of $50… So, I thought I’d give them a call and see if I could get in a little earlier than, err, November. I was shocked to find that I could get my test on MONDAY afternoon!! Wow! Cool.
I’m already getting nervous. I’m doing it on my bike, which means Vern and I will HAVE to get the speedo repair job done this weekend, because I’m quite sure they’ll want me going specific speeds — Kinda hard to judge that without a speedometer!
Anyone got any Class 6 tips for the test? I’ll be taking it in Richmond — Yep, I know, that’s a crazy place for the test but I don’t have any choice. I’m not waiting until practically December to legally ride in the dark when nightfall will soon be coming at 4:30!

Good luck!! Have fun.
I’ll tell ya all about the test tonight over coffee. I did my road test via the BC Safety council last month.
Hey good luck on that and thank goodness you didn’t have to take the test in the cold and snow. What do you folks do in the frozen north all winter?
Pay attention. Don’t ride even remotely aggressively (I failed my first time for supposedly “cutting off” someone, despite the fact that there was a TON of room, and THEY SLOWED DOWN to let me in…)
Hmm. Watch for street signs. Yes, get a working speedo, that’s rather important for park & school zones.
Make sure you can do everything on the list — tight u-turns, lane changes, highway driving, etc etc etc.
One thing I learned from my car road test: Know the area. I took my test the first time in Coquitlam, having driven there … once before. Yeah, that sucked. If your road test is in Richmond, ride around in Richmond a lot ahead of time, especially near the MVB.
Other than that? I dunno. Ride well.
I think you’ll be fine.
Thanks to everyone that emailed and posted thoughts here re: tips! Great, great help!
I’ve called and arranged for a GS500 for Monday so I don’t have to fart around with my bike this weekend, which takes a load off.
Russ, actually, Vancouver doesn’t ever get that cold… We often have no snow at all, and when we do, it lasts only a day or two. I can’t think of another city in the world where in the winter you can go skiing, and then kyacking in the same day!
a quick small tips! Relax
and i know a place where there is snow in the winter
OIhhh.. Don’t forget sailing or cycling in the same day too.
heck, or even riding your motorbike.
Ooohhh!!! That is so exciting!!! Good luck!!!
