C'mon, Vancouver Coffee Shops… Give me a break!

Give me a decent Caffè Mocha please!Surprisingly and with great disappointment, most coffee in Vancouver, a city where coffee connoisseurs outnumber wine connoisseurs, is truly horrible. I’d know. I’ve been spoiled by excellent roasting, quality beans, and baristas that know how to pull a shot properly.

These past few days have been about misadventures in coffee. Due to my very sore toe, I haven’t been able to venture out far to get my daily requirement of at least four shots of espresso. I’ve been submitted to some of the most horrific tasting coffee and pathetic staff that I’ve ever encountered anywhere. For almost (and sometimes over) five dollars for a caffeinated beverage, you’d think I could get something that resembles a decent cup of coffee.

But no. At least, not in the vicinity of my office.

So, from now on, no matter how much pain I’m in, I’m going to make the trip the whole three blocks to Cafe Artigianos so that I can get myself a quality mocha — I feel completely ripped off with the latest cup o’ crap I received today. Mind you, yesterday’s score was even worse.

I like the Umbrella Cafe on Davie just up from Denman.

And of course, Melriches is godlike. (Davie & Jervis).

    Yeah, I know, it’s a little far. But that’s my ‘hood. :)

One place you might want to check out is the Lupo Cafe or Trees.

THIS is why I’ve given up drinking coffee at or anywhere near the office. Blech!

Hope your foot is feeling at least a little better.

Seattle’s coffee scene was way better when I went there last month. But the best product and atmosphere was not found in the glitzy Starbucks outlets in the centre of downtown. Rather, it was in the little cafes off the beaten path. Just lovely.

I’d go back there just for the big, hot mugs.
