Better than expected!
Nothing with this upcoming move has gone without some sort of screw up… From my upcoming landlord making us sign a 10 page lease, to her threatening to put it back on the market because she didn’t get a signed copy and postdated cheques back in the mail to the States in a timely fashion (damned postal service), to my present landlords showing the place over and over again with no interested parties (and I refuse to let them show it without being at home), to my new landlord trying to change my moving date because the new hardwood and baseboards are taking longer than expected to put in…
But, today, I was able to talk the agent for my landlord in to letting me grab the keys from the concierge on the premise that I wanted to measure for new desks, which is true, but the real reason was that I wanted to see the new hardwood floor colour, and refresh my memory on the quirks and layout of the place.
I’m so glad I did. I popped in tonight, expecting light-coloured wood to be installed (I was given the brand of the hardwood, but not the exact stain) and what I walked into was this rich-looking dark hardwood… with really awesome baseboards throughout, and a fresh coat of warm neutral paint on the walls. I took a moment to go out on the balcony, and the view was even better than I remembered when I rushed through before we took the place — I can see Robson Street, most of English Bay, and even some of Coal Harbour. It’s a spectacular view.
So, tonight, after my landlords finish showing my old place which is literally a minefield of boxes and STUFF everywhere, and Michael gets home from working late, we’re going to walk up (the whole block) and grab a bottle of wine, and order in chinese food… And eat it while sitting on a sleeping bag in the middle of our new living room floor.
I really, really needed this flood of excitement to get me through the next few days of moving torture… I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and my imagination is running wild with the possibilities of how our new place can look once we’re settled.
Yay!

Ooh it sounds like the place is coming along awesome. I am considering puting in hardwood floors in my place in a dark stain. Let me know how you like them! And i’m sure moving won’t be that bad. I love deciding where everything goes. And besides you are moving in with your sweetie, all the excitement is making me jealous, I love organizing things!
What an awesome night ahead!!!
Only a few more sleeps, T… hang in there girl.
Jen: I do like the floors, although, the more I look at the stain, I think they made an error — There’s blackish dark spots on warm brown, sort of like it’s a bit rustic… Kind of odd for a downtown highrise, but, it’s better than a washed oak, anyhow.
Stace: It was really nice… It’s just too bad both of us are so damned tired these days to really fully enjoy it for the moment it was. We’ll look back, and appreciate it, nonetheless!
Rog: Yep, I’m so lookin’ forward to drinks tomorrow night. ps: Glad your gravitar is finally showing up! Yay!
