Creature of habit, no question
Yikes! It’s become abundantly clear to me that I’m a creature of habit. I’m not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but, I guess the first step to changing is recognizing that I am one. (That is, of course, if I decide I need to change.) To illustrate this, here’s some of the things I seem to be addicted to:
…Every single morning, I get the same order at my local coffee shop: A grande, extra shot, low-fat mocha and an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie.…At least 3 days a week, I order a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch at the same food court I go to practically every day in the Bentall Towers
…I have a nightly ritual where I simply can’t fall asleep at a decent hour unless my head is on Michael’s warm, soothing, naked chest (drooling all over it, of course)
…Today, I bought the exact same pair of ‘daily’ shoes that I’ve been wearing for a year now (I’m definitely not a shoe hound)
…I watch only two shows on tv regularily, and am never interested in getting attached to new shows — “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Medium” are plenty of entertainment for me…When I go to the liquor store to buy wine, I almost invariably pick up the same old favourite: Yellow Tail Shiraz
There’s more, but that’s enough for today to demonstrate that maybe I do have a problem.
Who else is a creature of habit? What types of things are you addicted to?

I’ve come to realize how much a creature of habit I am and that everything I do is fairly ritualized. Like, when I do something, from taking a shower to making coffee, it’s usually in a set order every single time. I think I do this because not having to think about what I’m doing frees up my mind for other things like listening to music, thinking, or daydreaming.
As far as addiction goes, I’m one of those people that shouldn’t be spoken to before I’ve had my first sip of coffee in the morning. Pretty much everyone who knows me is aware of this, and they put up with my bear-ishness in the mornings, God love ‘em. I definitely couldn’t live without coffee and I think I’d be a far more unpleasant person without it.
Almost every day I eat oatmeal for breakfast, carrots for a snack, and dry organic soup for lunch. Boring, huh?
Oh my! What’s the fun in that?
I use the same bathroom stall, and feel really, really uncomfortable if my stall isn’t available.

If I don’t read before sleeping, I don’t sleep as well. Since we need to buy a lamp for the livingroom, we’re currently using my nightstand lamp in there. So I have no lamp next to my bed. And Rich usually goes to bed before me. And hates having the light on while he’s sleeping. So, no reading in bed right now. It’s driving me batty. I’m not sleeping well.
I really wish I remembered where I packed my booklamp.
I always ride backwards on the skytrain. Even if I’m standing, I automatically face backwards.
Nervous habit: I fiddle with my necklace & rings constantly. A lot of people are surprised by my abundance of girly jewelry (gold necklace, two rings on my left ring finger, one ring on my right ring finger) given that I’m not an overly girly person… but without these, I get a little squirrely. The necklace especially. I *hate* not wearing a necklace. I need to fiddle with it! This is, unfortunately, a stupid thing since I have sensitive skin, and my neck gets blotchy if I touch it. *sigh*
You’ve posted twice since my commenting this, and perhaps I feel some security in that. So, without further ado…
1. At least two cups of strong black MaxwellHouse coffee.
2. Players Light King Size Cigarettes
3. Tim Horton’s extra large black coffee
4. Two slices of Mrs. B’s pepperoni pizza and a large chocolate milk
5. Warsteiner Premium Verum (German import lager)
6. Worry about all the above
I guess I’m a creature of habit and ritual too. I’m not sure whether to be ashamed, or to look at these things as a badge of honour. Probably the shame thing.
I’m with you on the eating food around here… So many lunch choices, yet I end up going to the same few places (the deli in Royal Centre, Tim Hortons, or Steamrollers if I’m really hungry) every week.
And every weekend I get the same order from my favourite sushi place in my neighbourhood, whichever night I’m by myself.
I also have bought the same running shoes twice a year (or so) since 2003, though that’s because I had a shoe expert help me pick them out (based on my foot problems).
I’m trying to stop myself from buying exactly-the-same-looking replacement clothes for stuff that’s falling apart. It’s a slow process. But I gotta stop looking like a frumpy university student.
MMm oatmeal chocolate chip is my absolute favourite and they are hard to find! I am a creature of habit when it comes to food and drink. The chef at the restaurant I manage always makes fun of me cuz all i ever seem to eat is some sort of starch (bread, pasta, potatoes) and chicken and cheese. lol i should really be 400lbs. and then of course there are my other habits… iced tea, rye, coffee, more rye and more coffee…
