Ikea, you SUCK: Your online ordering stinks. Period.

[rant] ARRRGH! I’m so mad right now!

Ikea, you SUCK!After spending quite a bit of time figuring out the desk configuration for our new office, converting Ikea’s stupid centimeter measurements to inches, (yes, I live in Canada, but the bloody tape measures here are in feet, not centimeters you dorks) and finalizing my choices online — I go ahead and hit the “buy” option, after reading that Ikea has a flat-rate shipping charge to Vancouver of $39 for up to 20 items. Good deal, or so I am lead to believe.

And then I wait.

And wait.

No email confirmation of my order ever comes.

I call Ikea’s 1-800 number, thinking, okay, shit happens, they’ll help me on the phone. “Customer Service”, my ass… The phone simply stays on hold for 25 minutes. No human ever picks up the line.

So, then I email them from their site. Two days later, I get a canned response saying, please call our customer service department with your order confirmation number.

Are these people just plain *stupid*?? Do they even read their emails? It’s not like this is a $50 order. It’s flippin’ $900 before tax. So, I fire off another email stating, I don’t have a confirmation number — Because, if they read their email I sent, I didn’t get an email confirming my order.

I get a phone call, which I can’t take because I’m working — So, I call them back on my lunch break, and get transferred twice…

I finally get the right department, and guess what I’m told? “Oh, your order is coming from Toronto, so it’ll be between two and three weeks.” WTF??! Then, I get a sneaking suspicion about the price of the shipping… So, I ask about it: Their answer? “Oh, that’ll be about $300, give or take.”

Uh, how about no? Cancel my order. Apparently, she explains (in a tone which indicates that this isn’t a new problem), in order for me to get the $39 shipping fee, I need to DRIVE to the store, order the parts there, and then arrange shipping at the shipping counter for everything I’ve collected during my shopping excursion.

Bastards! I’ve now wasted a week without desks, which puts our work at home in a compromising, and less-than-productive situation, and we have absolutely no way to put our office together without this much-needed furniture.

Trust me — If I could buy these damned desks anywhere else at this point, I absolutely would.
