I can’t even imagine…
My Sweetie just sent me a quick heads up on a local news story we’ve been following.
Graham McMynn was just found alive in Surrey.
That is a pretty incredible development, given that he’d been gone over a week after being abducted at gunpoint (this just doesn’t happen in Vancouver!), and the family hadn’t been contacted as of last night for any ransom demands.
I can’t even imagine how he, and his family must be feeling right now. I’m so happy this story had a positive ending.

Roger: yeah, there’s some disparity. 50 women in the DTES go missing. After over a decade, they finally put some police into looking into it. 18 of them, investigating all 50+ women.
Rich kid goes missing, and he’s got 24 officers for just him immediately.
Don’t get me wrong — I’m glad he got found. But the disparity pisses me off.
The whole event just reeks of weirdness. But, yes, I’m glad he was found alive and as well as anyone could be after something like that.
I am so happy to hear that news. I can just imagine how the family is feeling to have their son back. I can’t wait to hear how the rest of the story unfolds.
While I am happy he was found safe, I can’t help but feel a bit upset at how this story was both covered by the media and by how his rescue was given priority by the police.
First the media:
How many people go missing or were kidnapped and are given little more than a casual mention on the news, never to be heard again.
The McMynn case gained an unusually large amount of press and the only reason I can come up with is because they are a ‘well to do’ family. Would the press have given so much airtime to a similar situation where the family was just ‘middle class’?
Second the police raid:
The news reports varied between 100 to 200 officers were involved in the coordinated raids on 14 different houses, resulting in Mr. McMynn being recovered in a house in Surrey.
Would the police have put the same number of resources on the case for a middle or lower class family? I seriously doubt it.
I think ‘rich’ people have an unfair advantage in leveraging their status to advance their personal agendas.
Would I do the same if I were rich? Of course.
Do I think it’s fair? No.
