The Daily Show does Butte

Last night, while watching The Daily Show, I was struck by how funny the “Butte, MT” segment was. For those of you who didn’t see it, correspondent Jason Jones highlighted the tourism that Butte offered. Which, by the way, is a total sum of the Berkley Pit — Which is this vast mess of toxic left-overs from mining for years and years. They’ve actually got a look-out, which people can pay real money to view the waste close-up with sightseeing telescopes.

Who pays *money* to look at a gigantic hole in the earth filled to the brim with highly toxic water? Is the Butte Chamber of Commerce for real? Do they really think this is a beautiful place? I’m thinking they’ve been breathing this stuff in a bit too long…

I thought the funniest part of the segment was when state representative, Jon Sesso was asked about what else Butte had going for it… He paused while staring off into space (mouth open), scratched his head, paused some more, grinned, shook his head while still desperately searching for something to add, muttered “Oh, please, uh…” — And, this continued on through the rest of the clip. Halarious!

Just in case you missed it… Here’s the segment!

I love Jon Stewart. He’s got some amazing writers and producers behind him! (I’m still laughing at the “I got no kids”, and “We don’t have time” — “Yes we do” — “No we don’t”, parts) That’s damn funny stuff! …Enjoy!
