Washing that bad service right outa my hair!

As a temporary fix to this horribly annoying mySQL version problem, I’ve moved my database hosting to a local machine. Obviously, I am not going to be paying a hosting company over $100 USD per year to host simple html pages, so I’m shopping for a better hosting company that I can count on for support.

So, a shout goes out: Do you have a hosting company which is reliable, gives notice of upgrades and potential issues, and is reasonably priced for a couple of domains on a single account? If so, let me know! It’s really sad that I have to go to this effort, but the service level at Site5 has been steadily declining over the last several months (taking over a day to respond to a simple question is completely unsatisfactory in my opinion), and quite honestly, that’s not what I signed up for. Thanks in advance!

I’ve been reasonably happy with http://www.dollarhost.com. That is, they’re fairly reliable, responsive, and haven’t screwed up enough to make me look elsewhere.

T, I guess you need to change your side bar: regarding Site5. I guess they are no longer “awesome”?

That is so bad that you are having so much trouble with Site5. I was down for a few hours on Monday, but other than that, I haven’t had any major problems. When I upgraded my blog, it was the people who manage the blog (WP) that told everyone to upgrade, not Site5.

My former Server was http://www.webserve.ca/ who were great at telling you what they were up to–regular emails every two to three weeks. However, they were expensive, and I was turned off at some of the “low-end” packages they had. But they are local: Richmond/Burnaby area.

Good luck, and I hope everything turns out for you.
