Why I hate my hosting company:
A fine example of the worst customer service EVER from a hosting company, after I spent hours waiting for a response, they give me this: (I’d asked them why the heck my site was suddenly not functioning as it should with mySQL when I made no changes at my end)
Hello,We have not made any recent changes to mysql.

Um. That’s an awesome answer, Site5! Wow. So, then I email them again, saying, you obviously *have* made changes, because I *haven’t*. I get this response:
Hello,
We actually did upgrade MySQL to 4.1.21 fleet-wide over the past few nights. This was a necessary upgrade from 4.1.19 due to several security fixes. Thank you for choosing Site5 and have a great evening!

OMFG. Will you get your damn stories straight? Oh, and this was sent at 2am. About 20 hours after my initial request for a possible reason for my disruption. This is the kind of service and response time I should be expecting from now on, then? I think I’ll be looking for another provider. I’m all ears, so if you know a company that goes out of their way to provide good customer service, and decent pricing, let me know.

might be time to change blogging systems AND hosting providers — b2 hasn’t been updated in years. :/
Upgraded to 4.1.12? My God, MySQL is now at version 5.1. That’s kind of backwards in itself.
Donna: I’ve actually been updating the code regularily… Thus all the mods that you see like Gravatar, and the behind the scenes spam checkers, and better user administration. That said, I might consider a change in the next little while if I can’t figure out this mySQL 4.1.21 DESC / datetime issue. It’s out of left field for me. I’m completely at a loss as to why this functionality changed with this minor upgrade.
They updated to 4.1.21, and yes, why the hell they did that instead of the GA version 5.x is beyond me. If you are gonna migrate, for pete’s sake, MIGRATE.
Okay, I’ve moved my database to a local machine temporarily until I can find a better fix for this stupid version of mySQL that my hosting co. has put up.
Colour me frustrated.
