And, so it begins!
Another chapter in my life…
Tomorrow is a long weekend day for us Canadians, but it’s already becoming something that doesn’t register for me, since it seems I’ll have quite a few days with time on my hands in the next little while.
Which brings me to wonder: Does EI get paid out on statutory holidays? I would have been paid for it, had I actually had a job to go to on Tuesday? Interesting question, but y’know, with the meager sum I’m getting (and being taxed on — how does that work, I ask? — It’s INSURANCE!) I guess I shouldn’t worry about *a* day of ‘insurance’.
I hope everyone had a terrific weekend! We didn’t get to making turkey this year, so no family dinner for us — M’s family is spread across the USA on the most part, so it would have been a bit far to go to visit them, and it didn’t sound like my family was doing anything this year and I, quite frankly, just didn’t have time to organize anything that in-depth after the recent few weeks of hell. Oh well, I’ll overdose on triptophan at Christmas, which is quickly approaching… Man, how time flies.
I am, however, really looking forward to the dozen or so friends coming by tomorrow night for a massive Pictionary extravaganza! Good times! Nothing quite like a gaggle of friends to take your mind off of ‘stuff’!
What did you get up to?

Well, to be quite honest Tanya I don’t think you want to even go to EI, those filthy bastards, they will hold back several weeks before you actually can get anything. My friend works for Human Resources, and from what she has told me, its a friggen joke, especially if you have made a good wage before hand.
**She just told me that they can hold back up to five to nine weeks before issuing you a payment. Vacation pay, last pay period and bonuses are factored in… go figure!
I’m sure you’ll be back in business before you know it. Enjoy the company of friends. You and M should do a road-trip out in the valley and enjoy the smoke’n good weather we are having for October.
Besides–we want you working when you get back. Someone has to pay for the Olympics?
No holiday here in the states so I just did my normal stuff. Mow grass, read, eat, play computer games and watch the rain come down.
Good luck with the EI thing, Tan. Here in the states it’s paid out by the week with no regard to holidays but I don’t know about Canada. I hope you’re back at work or doing your independent contractor stuff soon! Income is real nice to have.
How are things going, T? I hope all is well.
Had mom and dad over for a turkey dinenr last night. Tracey did most of the work and she put together an awesome feast.
Today, turkey soup.
Based on my experience EI sucks but it at least gives you a bit of a safety net if you need it. Put in your claim ASAP as it takes forever to come into action. Even if you find a job in that time the worst case scenario is that you don’t draw from it.
On another note – I am so sorry about yesterday. A consultant came into town at the last minute that I needed to connect with and I pulled a Vancouver flake-out. I vow to make it up to you guys when I get back.
As for me I worked most of the weekend and just went on some serious photo taking expeditions. I actually got a photo onto explore in flickr which i hear is a big deal or something. Wooohoo so it was a great weekend for me!
Hope pictionary was good times. Drunken pictionary is always amusing.
…speaking of Turkey, Tanya, since the USA Thanksgiving is coming up soon Turkey should be going on sale here soon. I’m going to buy 4 this year and eat one immediately! (the sales are usually for about 80% off normal price so I like to stock up my freezer)
Turkey… Mmmm. Maybe I need to go out now that Thanksgiving is over here, and find one on sale. That said, we’d have to eat it right away, because there’s no way we’d fit it in our freezer. Sometimes I really MISS living in a house with a downstairs freezer!
