Cruising!

Has anyone been on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines?  I’ve been on six previous cruises, but on Princess and Carnival… And, I’m just wondering if there’s any hints out there for RCCL?  Are there particular activities we should definitely do, or excursions we shouldn’t miss during our vacation?  We’ll be hitting Cozumel, Costa Maya, Grand Cayman, and Belize City on our travels.

A tip I always give out for people travelling on Carnival, for example, is it’s a ton of fun to get in on the horse race by buying a horse at the beginning of the cruise: Our gang did, oh so long ago, and had a fantastic time of dressing up our horse, bringing him to dinner each night, named him, and aptly so: Hoof Hearted (my ex and I were sharing a cabin with another couple, and the guy farted every night in their bed and stunk up the room… Ick!) — The horse became a conversation piece, and everyone on the boat knew us!

We’re embarking on Saturday morning… On the “Legend of the Seas“.  I’m already counting the moments!  — I’m not, however, looking forward to getting up at 3am for a 7am flight on Friday morning to fly to Tampa.  There ought to be a law!

So fun! My husband (who gets sea sick, as well as plane sick) told me he wants to do a cruise for our 5th anniversary. I think he’s nuts. And I think we’d be disappointed because we’d feel like we didn’t get to EXPERIENCE the places we stop at. Do you feel that way on a cruise? Have a very safe, fun trip!!

(OH! And I just saw that link the other commenter posted and I’m totally checking that out)

Hey Amanda! …I love cruising! (Obviously) I find it gives me a really awesome sampling of the various ports, while also allowing me to unwind and not worry about packing and unpacking, food allergies/contamination, awesome nightly entertainment, and the ability to meet so many neat people all in one place. I’ve never felt sick on any of the ships, even during hurricane season. When I find places that I like, I book a separate vacation to visit it in greater, lengthier detail. I think you’d love it! (Even my Dad loves cruising, after I had to drag him on the first one 12 years ago… He’s two ahead of me in cruise count now!)

Heya D! Yep, we leave Friday early, and on the ship Saturday. We’re going to have a blast, and wish you guys were joining us on this one! Oh well, 10 more months and we’ll all be cruising together! (the countdown begins)

um. did you say ‘buy a horse’? i’m trying to figure out how exactly that works… on a boat…

  • NetChick says:

Heh! It’s a wooden horse used for horse races on a track on the floor… and it’s quite fun! People actually bet on the horses, and win money (as do the ‘owners’ if their horse places!)
