Full-on sports!

The next 10 or so weeks are going to be full of sport-based activities for me! This chick is getting her act together, and getting back into top shape!

Starting tomorrow… It’s bootcamp twice a week for eight weeks. (Yikes!) For about an hour every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 7am (Double Yikes!) I’ll be having my ass whipped off of me. Or, at least I hope I will. I can feel the burn, already!

And, starting next weekend, I’ll be jump-starting kayaking lessons, and then for 7 Wednesday evenings, and one final Sunday in July… I’ll be heading to Jericho Beach with Miranda and Reilly to get my level 1 CRCA paddling certification. I’ve only been out in a kayak twice, and had so much fun both times, so I figured it was time to actually find out how to fully enjoy my kayaking experience without getting into some bad habits… And, gain my certification at the same time.

I can’t wait! I really need some structured activities in a social setting to fully be motivated to get back to my conditioning of a year ago. That, and with some of the stressful issues going on in my life right now, these active distractions are just what I need to take my mind off of things.

Do you have any sport-related activities you are getting involved with this spring and summer? Have you tried kayaking in the past? Or, any bootcamp experiences you want to share? I’d love to hear them!

    Hi T:
    You’ll love the kayaking!
I did a 12 week kayaking series a couple of years ago at Jericho. I didn’t quite make the certification (yet) as I needed to have another go at doing a solo recovery. I’ll get it done eventually.
As for this summer, I’m hoping to get back into hiking. Grouse Grind here I come!
    Have fun on the water!

I have friends that kayak but I can’t see the excitement. If I lived in an area like yours I’m sure I would enjoy it.
My summer will be spent snorkeling here in Florida. I live 60 miles from Daytona, 35 miles from the Gulf of Mexico and 20 minutes in any direction from fantastic fresh water springs, some of the largest in the world (www.silversprings.com) 10 minutes from my house.
    Care to join me?

    Hi there:

I hope to do some kayaking this summer. I joined a Meetup kayaking group. I am also getting back into mountain biking. I did a lot of it in Ontario but was a little intimated by the terrain here. I am going out on Tuesdays with the ladies from North Shore Riders and it is great fun.

Hi Tanya, I did Bootcamp a few years ago. My friend owns the company that started it all about 4 years ago. It was awsome. I know you will feel great after it. I keep trying to get ahold of you to talk about this stuff, as I’m going through a time of “getting back on the bandwagon” too. If I can help motivate you, I will. You have always motivated me in the past. My sister is getting married this august, and now I have to lose at least 30lbs to try to fit into a nice summer dress for her outdoor wedding. I know you will feel great after you start. Have fun! :) Give me a ring sometime, I’d love to catch up. Oh.. our whole family got bikes last week, and a bike trailer for the little ones. The trails around here are awsome to ride on during those warm nights after dinner. Ok.. I’m rambling too much now. Please give me a call so we can catch up. take care.

  • Hey Lisa! I finally emailed you back… Hope you got it okay. I’m so sorry I haven’t gotten back to you recently. I have no good excuse. I still love ya!

I LOVE kayaking! Ryan and I totally plan vacations around kayaking. In fact, just 3 weeks ago had a near-death experience on an ocean kayak. Not to scare you… ;-)

Um, new excercise….. Hmmmm, right now my excercise is running through the English countryside. Could I be more spoiled?
