Vancouver needs more of this:

I know this has been around for a while, and I’d heard about the campaign, but I never saw the video. Maybe it’s just me being overtired from a very short sleep last night, and a very long work week, but this brought a tear to my eye.
How High dvd

Info from the video site:

Sometimes, a hug is all what we need. Free hugs is a real life controversial story of Juan Mann, A man whos sole mission was to reach out and hug a stranger to brighten up their lives.

In this age of social disconnectivity and lack of human contact, the effects of the Free Hugs campaign became phenomenal.

As this symbol of human hope spread accross the city, police and officials ordered the Free Hugs campaign BANNED. What we then witness is the true spirit of humanity come together in what can only be described as awe inspiring.

In the Spirit of the free hugs campaign, PASS THIS TO A FRIEND and HUG A STRANGER! After all, If you can reach just one person…

PS. The response to this video has been nothing short of overwhelming and touching. Hugs to every single one of you who messaged. There has been thousands of emails from all over the world by people seeking to participate in the Free Hugs campaign and asking for permission. You do not need permission. This is the peoples movement, this is *your* movement. With nothing but your bare hands you can make THE difference.

Imagine all the people.

Happy Friday everyone! What do you have going on this weekend?

Going to the Commodore tonight to see hubbies coworker who plays in a Deep Purple cover band. Will take me back to my teenage years. Saturday night going to friends big 50th b-day party at Zin on Robson with over 70 guests attending. Should be fun time!

Nothing too exciting. I’ll be handing in my last assignment for my course tonight, so that will be good. Working tomorrow and I just came down with a cold. Might go and see the movie “Sunshine”. But right now I’m now looking forward to August so I can have some fun times.

Lovely reminder that it’s out there. I saw the vid before that soundtrack was put to it. Weekend? Two poetry readings and whatever life fits around them.

Going to the Bobby McFerrin concert tonight, getting on a plane tomorrow afternoon, sitting on the patio at Doc Willoughby’s all evening and then… well, I have a week off in Kelowna.

How much trouble do you think I can cause?

I’m glad most of you are planning something good. My weekend will start off at 8:00am tomorrow with a disiplinary session with my most difficult employee. That ought to totally screw up my Saturday. On the other hand I have a “first date” on Sunday. WOOHOO!!

That video is taken in Sydney and we were there! We saw that guy looking for hugs. Did I hug him? No! he looks like a bum.

    But we were there.

Are these related to the free hug people by the Vancouver Art Gallery? I remember seeing them a few months ago.

  • Vern says:

Its the same idea… the same movement… and yes… you are going to get some hippie influence in the free hugs thing.

But, I have received and given free hugs…. sooo… I rate.
