A quick, lunch time thought…

As much as I’m fairly happy with the way I look, I think I’d like to lose 10 pounds. My clothes just aren’t fitting right these days, so, it’s time to do something about it!

And, I figured, what better way to stay accountable to this, than to say something on my blog about it. ;) I’ve been very successful in the past losing far more than 10 lbs. (like, 55 lbs!) so I’m sure this will be a quick personal goal for me to reach.

So, the next time you see me ordering a chocolate shake (my weakness), kick me, will you?

Do you have a weight loss goal, too? Do share! (And, how are you going about it?)

i decided to hire a personal trainer, which sounds super ritzy chic-chic i know and a year ago i would have completely pu-pu’d the idea, but seriously? *best* money i ever spent. she helps me with nutrition, exercise and moral support & encouragement- highly recommended! so far so good, 35lbs down! whew! it was much more fun putting it on than taking it off, but now i’m really enjoying exercising & running- wouldn’t have caught me saying that a year ago.
my goal was to fit into “normal” size clothes, which I do now, it’s just the last few pounds to go.
she’s starting a walk-run club next month so am joining to keep myself on track & it’s open to anyone! :)

Yeah, I was getting a little thick around my middle and I have a hard time fitting slacks n’ jeans so I figuired I need to cut back on something. Pretty much (I find) the key is to just bring your own lunch/snacks to work. Usually I bring apples, boiled eggs, green tea etc… for snacks on my coffee breaks. The real culprit of course are “those” yummy fancy coffees which are about 400 calories. I drink it black or a little milk in it. I switched to genmai-cha, it also works as a good destressor at work.

  • Hey Cynthia! Does your trainer work in the downtown core? Is she super expensive? I’ve been thinking about going this route for quite some time now. Maybe now, I should just get on it!

Patricia: Ya, I eat a big breakfast, and usually only have a snack at lunch. My coveted mocha is skim, and without whip, so it’s not too bad… And I’ve cut myself down to only 3 a week. I’m going to try to get it down to 1 time a week! :)

Since June I have been struggling with back issues which have not allowed me to exercise or even walk more than a block. One of the things that has kept me going is planning on hiring a personal trainer when I can. I would like to lose 30 lbs. I would also love to know Cnythia’s trainer and if she is taking on new clients.

55 lbs? If I lose that much weight ppl will think I’m a stick!

The best weight loss program is go on a long hiking/skiing trip traverse the mountains while eating as little calories as possible. Not recommended though since you’ll probably gain the weight a week or two after completion of the trip. ;)

yay! yes i know she’s taking more clients and she works all over vancouver- she even comes to your place if you want which so rocks, and will do whatever kind of workout you want. can you tell i just adore her! she’s awesome! her prices, i think are pretty great for what you get- full personalized workout & food plan, plus the personal one on one time which is great and she is always available for questions, etc.

Yup I’ve been on a weight loss mission since January. I started out at 168 lbs and lost 12 pounds in the first 3 months, landing at 155.8 lbs. Since April I haven’t lost any and have put a little back on, I kind of have been languishing in my fitness and diet efforts. But coincidentally this week decided to kick it up a notch. I’m currently 159.6 lbs and my ultimate goal is between 140 – 145 lbs (I can’t be specific because I don’t really know what 145 lbs looks like on me – I’ll decide when I get there if I am happy with that or if I want to lose a little more.)

I’m trying to lose it for my wedding day which is August 23, 2008, but it’s been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time anyway and I’d like to keep it off.

I also highly recommend the personal trainer route as long as you find someone you like personally, and can work with their type of workouts. Make sure they have a good fit with you in terms of aggressiveness in motivating you to push yourself, helping you with issues other than just fitness i.e. diet, body image etc. It certainly is money well spent even though it’s expensive!

If I lost wieght and the wind picked up I would blow away. 6’0″ and 160 on a good day. I am sure that ones who struggle don’t want to hear that though.

Maintaining weight can be just as big an issue as losing I think… or maybe just for me. I don’t know. I don’t have eating disorders… but sometimes I just forget to eat.

The fact I skate 30-40 miles a week probably doesn’t do much for maintaining it either.

Go, girl. I lost almost 50 lbs when I got my puppy, Charlie. I cut back to 1800 calories per day (or less) and walked every day. By the time it was over, I was 203 lbs and Charlie was full grown. Now its all about maintaining the wieght. I fluctuate about 10 lbs but I don’t allow myself to go any further than that. A week of extra walking and reduced calories will bring me back. The only struggle I have now is mental.
But you’ve likely figured that out by now…

Susie Waller at Fitness World (at City Square Centre, Cambie) is a pretty good physical trainer. She does a series called “women on weights” which is quite good (develop your abs without crunching!), it’s done is small groups of 6 so the cost of having a personal trainer is broken down a bit. She is still available for one on one though.

Same here. Started noticing a thicker middle about a year ago, but only a few months ago did I decide to kick a little more butt. Unlike before, I know look at nutritional information. I’ll even look it up online when I’m tempted to get fast food! Doing this has helped me change a few bad food snack habits. No more English Bay cookies, McDonald’s breakfast burritos, etc.

I try to eat right, and try to visit the gym minimum three times a week. My best friend says I’m lookin’ good!!

I lost about 30 lbs last year, and my trick was walking and exercise. I figured I could eat whatever I wanted, but cut the carbs in half, and exercise every evening from 9pm to 10:20. It was a time I’d otherwise be lounging, and it made me think carefully about what and when I could eat. Before that, I’d eat late, but knowing I couldn’t exercise on a full or empty stomach made me plan meals better. Also, I couldn’t have wine with dinner, which was a bad habit of mine.

Now, due to six months of working a lousy shift, I’ve gained back about 5 to 10 lbs (but I don’t have a scale, so I’m not sure). I’ve just switched to the 8 to 5 shift again, so I’m going to go back to my old diet.

  • Hannah says:

Oh yeah, I forgot. It really helps to take an exercise class or have a personal trainer. I took a martial arts class where the instructor took attendance every day and asked people why they hadn’t attended class. Knowing he’d call me on missing a class was usually enough to make me go. I needed someone else’s discipline, and the instructor provided that.
