I'm augmenting my blog a bit!

Hi guys!

As you can see, I’ve made a few changes around these here parts. The changes aren’t huge content and format changes, but rather some small monetization additions as well as a few upgrades behind the scenes.

The point to this is twofold:

1) I’d like to promote my community here with some cool contests (like my current one where I’m giving away the value of a Nintendo Wii as a gift certificate to one lucky participant) — And, in order to do that without breaking the bank, I’ve added some monetization features to this site. Here’s my idea Balls of Fury divx : Rather than feed you ads that you may or may not look at, without any benefit to you, I’m going to offer 50% of my earnings from these ads and other monetization efforts back to you, the visitor, via contest prizes (cold hard cash, cool gifts, etc.).

2) This site offers me a way to try out different types of ads, banners, and other monetization schemes, easily… And change them out without too much impact to the site. By doing this, I can go back to my business clients with real-world examples of what works and what doesn’t, at least on this blog. Combining the best-practices here, with the experience I’ve gained monetizing sites for the past several years on a corporate level, gives me some insight that I can share with you, and my clients, to the latest in blog monetization.

Additionally, I’m going to share with you how I’m doing with these features, as well as provide you with some cool new ways to make money on your own blog. No, I promise this isn’t going to turn into a “John Chow”, “John Cow”, “Jane May” or “Make Money Online” site… You can go to those sites for that. I just think some of you might find it interesting content, from time to time.

But, ultimately, this will remain my personal site, with the occasional trainwreck dating story thrown in for fun.

What do you think of my small changes?

Weird, I just wrote a bit on my blog about turning down an ad offer because I hate ads: especially those pop-up pages offering free porn and other xrated garbage.

Anyway, I find it ironic that you post your “dating train wrecks” while presenting ads about Family Law Companies and Marriage Counseling. Seems you’ve got all sides covered in the domestic department… he he he.

But I do like the look you have here on your site. You’ve got Word-Press looking a million bucks! Very nice theme.

    Hope you find your prince.

  • Heheh! Tom, I don’t choose the Google Adwords — It’s pretty strange that they think my readers would most like to click on Family Law or Marriage Counselling sites. *sigh*

Thanks, I hope I find my prince, too!

I think they’re neat. You’re pushing the envelope of how a social networking-derived community is built. In doing so, you’ve got my brain spinning on best practices in this fast-evolving space.

Yup, the analyst hat is on once again. I might mull this one before popping back in with more comments/questions.

  • Sounds like a good plan. I think if it is unobtrusive and done right you will meet with little resistance. One of my must read blogs (avc.blogs.com) generates tens of thousands of dollars a year (Fred donates it all to charity). I think the point is that if you have traffic it is monetizable. How you choose to do that and where you put the money once you get it is up to you (I am glad you have chosen to give back mind you).

Keep us posted on the progress eh!
