Hello? Is this thing on?

Tap.

Tap, tap.

Hi guys! Guess I kind of dropped the ball for a week or so, there, didn’t I? Ack, it has been a week. *sigh* That’s what happens when you stop socializing and well, functioning for the most part, for an entire week. My poor blog, and you guys, get neglected.

So, how was your Christmas? Did you get any cool gifts? Was there a fun tradition that you started this year, or continued on with, that you absolutely have to do again next year?

You see… I have to live vicariously through you, my friends. I didn’t celebrate Christmas this year. As much as my family and friends tried, I wasn’t having any part of it. Okay, other than a few gifts for the kids, of course. The kids don’t understand why I took a hiatus this year, and hell, they don’t really care, either. Besides, Christmas is definitely more about the kids than us grown-ups. At least, that’s what I told myself, this year. Instead, I elected to give the majority of my Christmas shopping budget to the Terry Fox Foundation, where only 3 cents of every dollar donated goes to administration costs – That’s truly a great place to donate for cancer research.

Christmas 2008 is going to be a whole lot different for me, though! As much as I’m really proud of myself for not crumpling into a pile of mush on Christmas Day, I won’t ever be dropping off the face of the planet again during what should be a time of joy and happiness. I did what needed to be done this year. And I got through it.

Christmas eve was really nice — Faye came over, and we drank bellinis, watched Christmas flicks, and yacked about girly stuff ’til late… And then she crashed in the spare bedroom until I’m sure was longer than her back could handle on that air mattress, and left at about 9am. Since I didn’t get to sleep until almost 2:30, I wasn’t exactly awake when she left. I do remember saying goodbye, though.

I spent most of the afternoon that day on the phone, with friends and relatives, (some of whom were a part of the family I just found… so that was really neat to catch up with some of them for the first time on the phone) and spent the evening going for a walk, and watching chick flicks under my fuzzy warm blanket.

I think the word “pleasant” describes my day best.

So, I can’t wait to hear all about your Christmas (or time off for those that celebrate the holidays in other ways)… Gimme details!! The Gate II: Trespassers ipod

Christmas was ok here. Two of the four child-units are out of town (Las Vegas with their father).

Child-unit three and I went to mass, late, but got there just in time to sing a song we’d been practicing.

We walked home in time to catch Pere Noel making his way into the southern part of the US (on NASA’s Santa Tracker). That helped shuffle her butt to bed. CU-4 got up just as she was going down so he got to stay up and watch for Santa.

Christmas day was relatively subdued. We each opened up a couple of gifts, then sat around and watched Christmas movies until supper with my parental units.

Thing about supper with old people … they keep their place HOT. We were out of there by 8:30 as my dad was falling asleep and CU-4 (who’s 11 months now) was also ready for bed.

Boxing day saw us working on a GST rebate form for construction we had done on the house, playing the older kids Webkinz while they’re away, and taking turns cleaning up after sick children. Kind of the same yesterday.

So, all in all, it was a pretty nice period of down time, visiting with my MIL, doing a whole lot of nothing.

I’m glad you did what you needed to do to take care of yourself. I did a bit of hibernating after my mother died, and I didn’t have to deal with Christmas so soon. I think some cocoon time is a good thing when dealing with something that heavy. Hang in there. It doesn’t ever get okay, but it does get better.

The girls and I decorated sugar cookies for the third year in a row. Sweetheart doesn’t come from a family with many traditions, so I have to push him a bit. He’s willing, but needs to be reminded sometimes.

Glad you seem to be on the upward swing!

We were pretty low-key this Christmas. We got together with both sets of parents and the siblings that were in town for the traditional Turkey dinner. Other than that, we’ve been dealing with packing.

If you wanna check out the goodies Santa brought me, check out my blog: http://www.worldwidewatercooler.com/2007/12/28/for-tanya/

  • Hey, Tanya – like a lot of things, Christmas often doesn’t live up to anyone’s expectations, so, hats off to you for choosing for yourself how to spend the day.
Mine, this year (but not every year!) included the warm, wonderful elements of
friends and food – xmas eve brunch at Griffins’ with best friend Matthew, xmas day brunch with a group of dear friends who re-ignite our friendships every year for this tradition (it involves lots of grande marnier) then xmas supper with other best friend Anita and family. And for me, the central point is midnight mass – packed out, string quartet, carols reverberating, resplendent. Going home joyously as the bells ring.

    Hi T:
Sounds like you had a good peace and quiet kind of day. Glad that you got some time that you needed. :-)

I almost didn’t make it to xmas myself though, with a bad headache and a 222/coffee that majorly disagreed with me, plus major muscle spasm in my lower back….( I’m ok now though, I think :-)

I spent xmas at my sisters’ place, played with her cat (I can’t have pets in my building so it’s a treat) and she made me dinner (lots of mashed potatoes, my fave). I got some cool gifts of the traditional sort, mittens, chocolates etc…

Haven’t decided yet about new years eve, though. Bein’ single in vancouver can be tough!

    Best wishes,
    P.

Digital photo frame, some nifty clothes, and two matching (but from different givers, unrelated) really nifty necklace holders in the shapes of scantily clad ladies… and cash. Love cash. Am going to hit up the running room for new shoes & running gear with that.

Justice got a Giant Bone (http://www.flickr.com/photos/arwenoid/2142464134/), and some tasty dog treats & toys.

My sister got a hamster. She’s very pleased. :)

Projects, projects, projects. I have several days off work so I’m building furniture for friends and family and a new Pit barbecue grill in Charlie’s back yard.
    Happy New Year, T
