No, it's not been a pleasure dealing with you…

awesome letter I received today

Wow. F*** you very much, leasing company. This is the awesomeness I get after two years of being a model tenant, and treating this place like my own. I’ve put up with… having to sign a fixed term lease twice (meaning, I have zero rights as a tenant, and you took advantage of that last year and raised my rent by $350), absolutely crappy follow-through dealing with appliance issues (don’t even get me started on that fridge you replaced 6 times, without compensating me for the grief and the spoiled food), building issues where I’ve had days and days without any running water, power cut off for up to 15 hours 3 weeks in a row for ‘maintenance’, and security ‘features’ that make it impossible at times for my guests to get up the 28 floors. Oh, and those quarterly inspections you made me submit to? You suck. Seriously. You’d think after I was a model tenant during the first year’s lease, that you’d at least lay off on that invasion of privacy. But no.

This is my home. Now I have to move. While friends are getting moving allowances to vacate, I get less than fair notice to get the heck out.

Oh, don’t you worry, leasing company, if you have people coming through here night and day to show the place, or realtors traipsing through at all hours, I’ll be sure to make it as messy as possible while you are doing so… Because, you’ve shown me that you have absolutely zero respect for me and my privacy.

Who I really feel for, though, is Donna… She’s moving in on Sunday. Now she has the joy of living out of boxes for 2 months while we search for another home to accommodate us. Good times.

Again, I’d wanted to share what occurred the past weekend in Alberta, but I’ve been sick all week, and I’m just finally starting to feel better today. I’ll try to get to the good-news post written and up, this weekend, if I have time.

What are you looking forward to this weekend? Me? Tonight I’m going to see if I can actually eat solid food without being ill with Isabella, Glenn, and Patricia at my first Dine-Out-Vancouver evening — Great place to kick it off… Zin! Afterwards, I may head over to Paul’s to play some games with Paul, and Rog. Tomorrow morning, it’s breakfast at Cafe Crepe, then my cleaners at noon, and then a birthday party at the bowling alley to finally celebrate Zoe’s big day (which was actually Jan. 1). Later that night, I’m hoping to get out to Alexis’ Cougar Party (uh, no, I don’t qualify yet) with Monica… And Sunday, I’m working most of the day to catch up from the last 2 days of the plague.

you know… if you slam Town Investment Ltd. in your post, it will at least come up in search engines so everyone can read what a pleasure it was to work with them.

But I’m sure you already knew this… ;-0

  • Ya, you see.. I wanted to do that AFTER I moved out. They can still make my life hell in the meantime. And, that’s eight to ten long weeks of ugliness that I really don’t need right now.

Then again, screw it. Town Investments Ltd., you suck. And, thanks so much for a wonderful two years. Seriously. I owe you. I really do.

  • Donna says:

I wonder if Town Investment Ltd is going to enjoy having a slathering beast howling at them every time they come in? :D

Maybe I’ll hold off a bit on training her not to bark as much when strangers come in… (ok, maybe not, because that annoys me more than other people, I think.)

  • Tanya (and Donna): I’m so sorry this happened to you, and my blood is rising as I type this. If you ever want to wear black balaclavas and do … well, something… I’m in! Any maybe Sean Orr (beyond robson) will join us too. I’m so sick of developers and Big People With Money running roughshod over anyone in their way. Are we a city of citizens? a democracy? fk – what happened to the word Society? Social? Oops, I’m ranting on your space. Sorry. But your story got my gut.

Not sure how I can help, but if you need a hand on moving day, let me know, and I’ll give some blog-comments to Town Investment next week.

Oh – and – what am I looking forward to this weekend (on a much more pleasant note) – Sunday I’m going to check out the new yoga centre that just opened around the corner. you can probably tell I could do with some centering ….

Sucks being forced to move when you’re quite happy to be where you are.

On the plus side, you have enjoyed two years there, minus the few incidents you mentioned.

It was great seeing you last night. Glad you made it over for some gaming.

  • That totally sucks.
    Man the joys of renting.

I am convinced they are going to redevelop where we live…we will be toast one of these days.

    Vancouver landlords are the devil.

    I miss Zin.

Want to move to Florida?? Me and Charlie have two empty bedrooms you can use. One even has a patio door to the pool and spa area!!
Charlie won’t mind. He might want to sniff all your luggage but then he’ll just fall asleep in the middle of your floor…

ding dang damn it. moving sucks. think of this snotty period as if you’re finally get rid of that slacker boyfriend. meaning, it’s hard to get the gumption to leave a bad situation…but now that you’re forced to move on, you’ll probably find yourself in a much better home with an awesome landlord.

*brainstorm* when you find a place you love, knock on some doors and see if the other tenants like the management company. it’s also a good cover for checking out the neighbors ;0)

good luck with the next few months, girls. be gentle on yourselves.

I hate moving. I hate renting. Vancouver real estate companies suck – they know prices are too expensive to buy, so they push around renters.

Don’t know if it is still the same today, but I seem to remember there is a limit to rent increases for lease renewals, but if you kick someone out and start a new lease, you are allowed to jack up the price as much as you want. You just have to slap on some paint and claim that the place was “renovated” before it was rented out again.

    Hope Town Investment gets payback.

All the best in getting a new place. :)

  • dining out with you was fun! and SUCH a cute waiter!

i once almost took our management company to court because they were so insulting and sloppy. and yes, once you have a place you like, you’re kinda stuck with them.

a good friend of mine works as a property manager, she is so enraged at all the bad people in her field, it gives the industry such a bad name.

looking forward to your “slamming” post once you’ve moved out :)

I’m very sorry to hear about your bad experience with the leasing company and that fact that you’ll have to search for a new place and move :(

I think we need stricter regulations regarding leasing because these companies are really messed up. I currently live in an apartment and I can feel your pain. They are either drilling and hammering at 8am or accessing my apartment to do something ridiculously useless.

It’s a good idea you mentioned it’s Town Investment Ltd so that other people don’t have to go through the same horrible experience.

I hope you find a new better place soon.

Actually, your best bet would be to keep the place sparkling clean and put a sign up in the bathroom letting people who are traipsing through to see it what happened. Then if you are there when they are, make sure they see the bathroom. They’ll never get anyone in there.
