I'm happy.

At risk of sounding like someone suffering from bi-polar (sometimes I wish I had mania, really…) I have finally come out of the fog I’ve been in for quite some time now. I feel happy again.

That’s not to say that there aren’t a ton of things on my plate that could potentially stress the hell out of me, like finding a new home, etc., but hey, that’s life. And, I’m going to make the best of it.

This weekend I had an “a-ha” moment, as Oprah is fond of saying… Eunice started the ball rolling — She was in town from LA, and we had quite an intense talk on Saturday night. I needed some tough love, and she gave it to me straight. But, as much as her words hit home, the talk brought about a realization that I haven’t been addressing some core things that have been making me really sad and because of that, I’ve been attracting a lot of negative energy around me. (which has probably manifested in the form of some horrible luck lately)

Despite that, I still lead a charmed life. I haven’t been very thankful for that lately, and I now recognize that I’ve been thriving on the negative, instead of creating positive around me. That’s now going to change. I’m going to remember to be grateful every. Single. Day. Because I am. Focusing on what I don’t have in my life isn’t working… That’s obvious. I’m now going to cherish what I do have. I know that sounds simple enough, but hey, it’s so darn easy to slip into feeling sorry for oneself. It’s a ridiculous emotion, which doesn’t do anything towards changing the things that I can. Yes, I’ll still allow myself grief and frustration, but wallowing in self-pity? (even privately) Stops now.

Northern Voice was great fun on Saturday — I ran into a ton of people I haven’t seen in a while, and I really enjoyed the talks. I won’t go into specifics about the conference because there were a TON of live-bloggers (being a blogging-type conference) that did a great job of capturing the nuances. What I took from it, is that I need to take the time to blog more regularly. I’ve been slowing down because I haven’t felt that I’ve had time to write here — But, I know I do. Everyone has a few minutes a day to do something important to them… And this blog has been an important part of my life, and my community, for more than 10 years. Did you know that about 90% of my friends have been made through this very blog? That’s pretty darn cool.

Oh! And speaking of over 10 years of blogging… I won a bookbag/laptop bag at the conference for having the oldest blog! How cool is that? Thanks so much to the organizers of Northern Voice, and Flock for the bag. :) Swag makes me happy!

Okay — It’s time for me to head off to work! I hope you had a great weekend, too? What did you get up to?

ps: Vern and I saw “Juno” last night, finally!! That’s one great movie! Highly recommend going to see it if you haven’t yet!

It was nice finally meeting you at NV this weekend, Tanya!

The other thing I got up to this weekend was scoring the game winning goal in my hockey game on Sunday! I’ve now texted it, Twittered it, blogged it and commented here about it. Can you tell I don’t score that often?

  • Hey Beth!

Great to meet you, too! I’m just sorry I didn’t have more time to chat with you… And, YAY! CONGRATS on the goal! How awesome is that??!

ps: I loved your boots at NV. *hot*

Thanks! I wish there was an award for “best footwear at NV08″ ‘cuz I *totally* would have won that. I was super duper mega jealous of the Flock laptop bag you won!

I am super jealous you got to be at Northern Voice, but I couldn’t make it myself. So what did I get up to this weekend? Well, darn – it was a busy weekend and started on Thursday. I usually write weekend recaps, but the past few weekends are just too crazy. I should probably write a long one now.

Anyhow, Delhi2Dublin (live band gig at CBC) on Thursday, flan and tea and bloggers meetup on Friday, brunch with a group of friends, dinner with another group of friends, sunday volleyball as usual (played really well) and sunday evening went to see ‘Definitely, Maybe’ with a very close friend of mine. So there you have it. :) It was a crazy weekend! I think this weekend will be just as crazy… ooops!

Sad Julie Christie didn’t win, but the upset inspired me to write what I think is one of my best essays in the past few weeks!

Sorry I couldn’t find you to say bye before I left the conference. Hope you had a good time. Sounds like you had a good visit with your friend, you seemed upbeat Saturday morning after your big night out. ;-)

I had a good day on Sunday, I walked around kits shooting vintage style photos on my plastic fantastic camera… (Wow, I just got back from a chinese dinner out with the gang, I may have to roll myself to bed…good though).

    best wishes,
    P.
