From Coal Harbour, to Yaletown!

I’ve got a new home The 4th Tenor movie

Naked Weapon trailer

Rush download !! I’m officially going to be living like a yuppie in Yaletown (at “Aqua at the Park”), directly across the water from Granville Island. I’ve got a water view, all stainless steel appliances, gas stove, 768 sf of goodness, a separate office with a window, and amazing building amenities: BIG gym (darn, no rowing machine, though), pool, steam room, sauna, hot tub, billiards room, squash court, media room, and access to a guest suite for a cheap nightly rate for my out-of-town guests.

Here's where my new home is

tons of extras

Another bonus? I get to move in about a week early… TOTALLY SWEET! Prompton Property Management is charging me for April 1st, but is happy to work with me to get in a little early to avoid the moving rush. Because, seriously, who wants to move on the last day of the month. And most places have the vacancy date the day before the first day of the month. How is that supposed to work? That’s just dumb.

The only thing I’m not super-happy about with the unit, is the carpeted floors. After having hardwood for over two years, going back to white carpeting is a bit of a nightmare. I remember the aftermath of the parties I had at the townhouse with that same carpeting. Yikes. I had permanently borrowed my friend’s steam cleaner… So the new rule for the new place? NO spilly-drinkers allowed!! ;)

YAY! I can’t tell you how happy I am about my new place. And, also how happy I am to have gotten a fairly decent rental rate, too.

Now, head to the next post and take part in the socializing game going on…! Babel

You can still have the spilly drinkers, just give them childs sippy cups. :)

  • Perfect!! :) That’s what I’ll buy at Ikea this weekend!

  • Lisa says:

Wow! You’re on the water. I’m jealous. One day I hope to live on the water.

  • :) Thanks Lisa! I’m stoked… Being in Coal Harbour now, I have a really great 28th floor view of the harbour and the bay, but this unit is actually about a block closer to the water, and the view is still darn good, even from the 6th floor. I’m sure you’ll get there, too! :)

thats great there are more street lights on Davie when we are stumbling home from one of your trying to kill me im sure martini parties. besides its much snazzier on the beach side, it just makes Georgia seem like East Berlin.

  • BHAHAHAAH!!! You kill me A… Honestly, I’m not *trying* to kill you at my parties. Just make you very, very happy! LOL!

And, you are right, it kinda does make Coal Harbour look like East Berlin — I can’t wait to be close to all the cool shops and bistros in Yaletown. That’s the one thing I didn’t like about Coal Harbour — Robson street really didn’t have much in the way of food.

Oh darn, though… No more London Drugs nearby. That’s kind of sad.

Al beat me with the sippy cup comment. I feel so unoriginal.

Are you living alone or with someone?

I need to move. I should try for May, get my ass in gear.

  • It’s a 1 bedroom & den… perfect for ME, and only ME ;) No more roommates for this chick — As much as I love living with others, I just have too much furniture to have someone come in with common room stuff. Besides, I’d have to *really* trust someone to commit to $2500 plus a month for a decent two bedroom in town.

Good luck with your search… Hopefully there’s be even more of a glut of smaller places at that point to give you a better deal!

Congratulations Tanya, and welcome to Yaletown :) Stop by sometime when you’re on Granville Island and say hi!

  • shnewt says:

WOOT! Good for you. Yaletown is 10 times better than Coal Harbour. And 768 sq feet! For Yaletown, that’s palatial!

  • Boo Radley says:

    Congrats Tanya!

I’m very happy for you :)
You can finally relax and enjoy your new home sweet home :)

That place looks fantastic, Tan. I just watched a one hour program on BC in high-def the other day and your “neighborhood” sure looks like a lot of fun.

Here’s an off-the-wall idea for your carpet, Tan. Ask management if you can stain it–and pick the color of your favorite beverage. LOL I’m sure you can’t do that–if nothing else most carpet is stain resistant, for obvious reasons, but wouldn’t it be nice to be able to change our carpet color whenever we wanted?

Congrats on the new place Tanya. It’s far less hassle being on your own then having roommates. I’m sure this will be a good move for you. Yeah! for a decent rental rate also.

  • Raul says:

Congratulations Tanya! I’ll have to come down and visit sometime! I am still in my super tiny 450 square feet apartment in the Main Street area, but hey I love East Vancouver, so I am not one to complain!

    Love Aqua Buses!

  • Mel — Definitely! Are you guys in the same place?

shnewt, I know! I couldn’t believe that I found a suite in Yaletown that size. Mind you, for a 1 br, it’s not cheap, but rental rates these days are just bloody insane. I’m paying $1500! For a 1 BR! Yikes. Oh well. It’s better than paying $2000 for the too many bedrooms I have now (not that I have a choice to stay.)

Boo – Thanks! I’m really excited to finally be able to stop looking and know where I’m going to live.

Thanks Mon! And hopefully it’s not too far out of the way for you to get to! The buses around there are awesome. (Aren’t you proud of me for looking at the routes?) And, I’m now a 5 minute aquabus ride to Granville Island. LOVE that!

utenzi, now I just need to get you up here to experience it for real! You really need to take it all in, in person!!

Charlene, thanks chickie! I’ll have to have you guys over when I move! I’m thinking housewarming on the 12th of April… Let me know!

Raul, I’m sure I could do 450 sf too, but my furniture is really massive… And the 52″ tv, uh, would encompass the living room entirely. So, I had to find something more livable size-wise. That, and I socialize a lot at home, so, it needed to have some space.

  • Roger says:

Congrats on the new place. Not too surprised it costs so much, I mean, look where you’ll be living!

Gonna try and get together with ya this time off. Will give you a shout late next week.

Yippee…we are going to be neighbours…right across from each other. I’m at the 501. That is actually a good price for a unit with a water view. It is an amazing neighbourhood. Let me know what day you are moving in and I will bring lattes and cookies over!

  • MJ Ankenman says:

Oh and btw there is a new Shopper’s Drug Mart opening up at Seymour and Drake just up the street. Any other lowdown on local establishments …let me know.

  • Patricia says:

A friend of mine lives in an apartment building in yaletown. He has a neighbour who plays the bagpipes. Hopefully it isn’t the same building … (just kidding!). ;-)

  • Rog! Would love to catch up with you, but this weekend I’m in Everett WA on business. Perhaps we can meet for lunch or you can yack at me while I’m packing ;)

MJ, I’m stoked that you live right across the road from me — Does your suite overlook the water, or North? Will def. have you over for lattes! (I can make — I just sold my old espresso machine, but buying another one after the move)

Patricia… hahahah… Little known fact about me? I *do* play the bagpipes!

    Raul – Evite coming, m’dear!

Nancy, drop me a line with the email address I should use for the evite!

David, so cool! We’ll definitely have to catch up more often. Oh, and I should def. send you an evite too! (I’ve missed so many darn people! I think I’ve lost my brain in this move)

Tawcan, I found this unit through Prompton Property Management — They tend to range in price from $1450 – $6000. I just happened onto a fairly decent price (these days) with them.

Rebecca… That’s cool! Which building is he in?

  • Pearl says:

Ooh, nice neighbourhood and layout. I’ve wandered around Yaletown a few times on trips. Congrats on getting occupancy that fast.
