Day 13…
Guys, I have to say, I’m really proud of myself! I’m just starting day 13 of my lifestyle changes (most of which I’ll continue with past the 3 month kick-start that I’m dedicated to getting through without any cheats) and… I’m down 5 lbs.! I actually have another 2 days before I officially weigh-in for the second week, but, I couldn’t wait and peeked at the scale this morning.
But more than the 5 lbs. as a number, I’m feeling healthier, and stronger. I still have a long way to get back to the fitness levels I was enjoying a few years ago, but I can feel the difference already.
What am I doing?
– I’ve reduced my caloric intake by eating more veggies and fruit, and cutting back on the carbs I used to rely on for the short-term energy gains
– I’ve worked hard to change how I think about food… I’m eating for energy, not for pleasure. — I’ve never been excited about food, but in the last year or so, I’ve really been eating the wrong foods too often.
– I’m drinking a ton more green tea, and reducing the skim-milk mochas (1 a week now, instead of 1 a day)
– Absolutely NO alcohol of any kind… And, boy, I didn’t realize how much this is a pain in the ass when I’m dating. Now, there’s no more “getting to know each other over a glass of wine” on a first date. My friends have been really good about supporting me with this choice, and I thank them for that. It’s just not worth the 180 empty calories per 8 oz. glass.
– Working out 4 days a week. Although this week, my workouts have consisted of lifting heavy boxes… (It still counts!)
So… On to week three! I’m glad that I’m keeping on track despite the moving hell and temptations along the way!
And! Don’t forget… I have some free stuff and really great deals, below!! Get ‘em while they’re still available… (please post a comment here to let me know you want something, thanks!

Wow that’s really great. Even though the first few days/weeks may be painful you’ll feel amazing if you keep it all up, as you’re starting to see. I’ve recently switched to green tea instead of a morning coffee too, and swapped iced tea at lunch for simply water. Lots…and LOTS of water hehe.
Thanks R! Ya, when I lost 55 lbs. back in 2000/2001, man did I feel good (and sexy, too
) Thankfully, the journey won’t be nearly as long this time.
I found this really AWESOME, and yummy green tea at Costco — It’s their Kirklands brand, and comes in a huge box. It’s also got matcha in the bag, which deepens the taste. Makes it very affordable to have 5 cups a day!
But, as of next week, my new favourite activity will be to adventure across the water to that loose tea place on Granville Island — Yuuuuhmmy!! I can see my budget going out the window.
Wow, that is a very huge accomplishment! Very proud. I have to admit that removing coffee (as Rebecca has) in my life has me feeling a bit anxious. So very proud!
I can’t give up my morning black tea with milk/honey, it’s too much to ask. At home I drink white/green/oolong but at work it’s 2-3 black teas a day from Starbucks and Timmy Ho’s.
Congrats on the weight loss, which sounds to be right about what you want (2-3 lbs/week). You have more dedication than I do.

Green tea is my fave. I definitely like genmaicha, which is a japanese brown rice green tea (sometimes called popcorn tea, if you see it in it’s loose state you’ll see tiny little popped rice kernels). It has a nice grainy aroma. I’ve also started drinking sencha, another japanese green tea which has a stronger taste. Have you tried any of these?
I keep a container of these tea bags at work, it’s easier and cheaper to brew my own tea rather than spending 2 bucks on one cup at the cafeteria next door …
Did you throw out your pop-tarts????
LOL C… I haven’t had Pop Tarts since my cruise in November! (only for travel!) heheh…
Wow keep up the good work. The no alcohol part would kill me I think.

You rock! Big congratulations. I will need to be making a similar change very soon.

wait a minute. do i infer that you’re only drinking coffee (mocha) once a week? Or do you mean you’re still drinking coffees/lattes, just reducing the cal-rich mochas? Life without lattes is no life at all, in my mind. Are you ok??

I agree with Tawcan…no wine on first dates? Ouch! In all seriousness…great work!
I recently did a 12 day cleanse in which I had to go without milk and alcohol (among other things) for 12 days. Oh how I missed my lattes and red wine! It did save me a lot of money though. Of course at the end of day 12 I immediately went out and had two glasses of red wine. Heh. Congrats on your progress. You are a stronger woman than I.
