Using my personal filter – It's necessary, apparently.

Wow. Over the past week, I’ve found myself un-subscribing to several blogs I used to read on a regular basis. — If you see some holes in my blogroll, that’s why.

‘Cuz, seriously? I don’t want to read about some pedophile (Wanna-be, I guess? GROSS!) or some chick that puked yet again because she has no ability to control alcohol consumption, and has some f’d up need to share her pathetic need to over-indulge. Every. Single. Weekend. I’m sure that your sad excuse for a life was a blast to write about, but I’m sorry, I can’t relate. (nor can I understand some late 30-something guy “getting off” on a barely legal girl, either)

Um? If you want to write about crap like that well into your thirties… Good on ya. I don’t want to read it. Have fun with that…

;) … I’ve got much more adult, um, {normal} things to read about, I guess. I don’t have enough time in the day to read about the stuff that actually interests me. Why on earth would I give these ridiculous people a moment of my time? I wouldn’t… And, I won’t. And, I certainly won’t advertise them to my friends and readers! Geesh. Pathetic! Give your head a shake! Then again, I guess (from the commenters on these sites) there are some people who actually enjoy reading this crap. I’m certainly not one of them. {place eye roll here} To each their own. Whatever.

And, a question for you… Do you find yourself re-thinking your blogroll (blogs that you read) or RSS feed, when someone annoys you enough to stop visiting? Days of Thunder full Ruckus movie It Came from Outer Space movie download

Definitely! I subscribe to a zillion feeds (current count: 702) and I’m pretty quick to unsubscribe when I read anything that makes me roll my eyes. I’ve also started purging all partial feeds from my RSS reader. I lost some good blogs that way, but I know I’m never going to click regularly.

I actually stopped using a blogroll because of issues similar to that. I found the blogs I had selected were not keeping me interested. Of course, that was a couple of years ago. Maybe, I should think about a blogroll again but with a more critical eye.

I wrote an entry during Blogathon about blogrolls – I did purge some people but basically just because I didn’t see the point of having them there if they weren’t even contributing to the discussions on my blog. Pretty much everyone you see on my blogroll comments one way or another.

And you are my inspiration for having such a huge blogroll because you are always so positive and wanting to showcase the work of other people! You are always a role model! :-)

    Hugs and love,
    R.

Definitely, why waste time on reading something like that-yuck. I also take some off my list whose posts are few and far between.
I also started purging on Facebook, those who only marked me as a friend to get their own friend count up, or those who don’t reply to my emails, wallposts or messages, and those who I just don’t see or talk to anymore and don’t really care to, and who don’t wish me well-why I thought they were my friends in general I have to question that too. It’s quite liberating actually!

Yes, I purged the blogs I read by about 75% last month (I mean I should be out having fun instead, I think!!), And like Cynthia I purged Facebook a bit and deleted some social software accounts that I experimented with (such as myspace) and never used.

The summer is half over, and as soon as I finish my writing course I’m going to spend less time on the computer and more real-time, me thinks…

I also have been more selective in what I’m reading, including my twitter contacts. Ever since I read an article a few months back about how it’s counter productive to “leave your options open” or “you never know, that might come in handy sometime” I decided to cut back on all sorts of info. I just don’t need it all. It’s very freeing. I don’t feel like I’m missing anything at all.

I shortened my blog roll list to people’s site I actually visit (or RSS feed I read). I also purged 200 people from my Facebook list. If I haven’t talked to you personally in over 12 months then why are you on my friends list? I should have an acquaintance list or something maybe?

I find people are far too worried about whether or not they appear on other peoples’ blogrolls and/or Twitter feeds. I’ve had a lot of issues with both, and have recently hit the point where I’ve tried to purge everyone that isn’t a direct friend or at least a pretty frequent acquaintance. I actually finally moved my blogroll to a subpage, simply because I got tired of people emailing me when I changed it around or sorted it differently.

I go through and purge my feedreader from time to time, and less frequently, I also update my blogroll (this is a good reminder to do it right now, actually.) Went through a HUGE purge before I went travelling, because I knew I just wouldn’t have the time to read anything but my absolute favourite blogs that I couldn’t live without. That was a great exercise because now my brain is accustomed to only quality content that interests me, so I’m pickier about what I subscribe to now.
