NetChick.ca becomes NetChick.net

Woohoo! My first post that actually works on my iPhone WordPress application! (my old database was improperly configured…)

You may notice some minor, and possibly some significant changes around these here parts, in the coming days.

The first was done a few nights ago…

That was the migration of my site from Dreamhost (who was once a good hosting company, and has gone to hell lately) to Bluehost Web Hosting, a much better host from the poll I took of people using it. What the heck, I’ll give it a try.

The second change while significant to me is fairly transparent to you the visitor… I’ve switched my primary domain from .ca to .net — I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now, and the hosting move was a good opportunity to make it live. Previously, my .net domain forwarded to my .ca domain, now it’s the other way around.

I’d *LOVE* to get the .com domain, but one of the owners of BoingBoing’s wife wrote a book a long time ago now using “Netchick” as her guide’s authorship. I don’t think they’ve ever used the domain, but they won’t sell it to me. Maybe one day.

Finally, with a little touch-up, my new site’s template might finally go live this weekend, time depending. As I’ve got Fringe Fest tonight, and put aside a full day to myself tomorrow to get the many things I’ve left “for a better day”, done, I don’t think it’s going to fit in.

We’ll see…

Oh, and if my email bounces this weekend, use my gmail account until my mail servers propagate.

Cheers!

I just bought tonychung.com yesterday. The previous owner buys and sells a domain names as a commodity. He originally wanted ${a lot} for it, but when I showed him http://www.websiteoutlook.com/www.tonychung.com, we both agreed that it wasn’t really making him any ad revenue so he should get rid of it. While I was sad it cost me money, I have to give him credit as an entrepreneur.

I tried the same service for netchick.com and there is no data, which means BoingBoing’s wife may need to be educated on the value of setting up even a one page site that explains who she is and what she does.

Alternatively, netchick.ca is worth $4095. Even trumps buzzbishop.com at $3066.

Hope you’re able to work out something.

  • Welcome Tony!

Hey cool tool there. I asked them why they were keeping the domain, and they said sentimental value. Okay, sure. I get that.

Hopefully, eventually, they’ll actually give it up. In the meantime, I’m glad they aren’t using it — My brand would be diminished if they did.
