NutriSystem: Week 1 – Did I lose weight?
Week one of NutriSystem finishes tomorrow, technically — Although, I did start the afternoon of last Tuesday. We’ll call it tomorrow.
I weighed myself 3 days in, just to see if I’d see any movement on the scale (I wasn’t thinking I would, since it was the morning after I’d cheated with a couple of beer on Friday) and, I was shocked. I was already down 2.2 lbs! …With cheating!
What are my first impressions of the NutriSystem program? Mostly really good, actually. Granted, it took a few days to get used to what felt like “eating constantly” (in my world, I am a 3 meal a day girl, who eats very small portions — I’m sure this has been my problem all along) and remembering to bring my fruit and add-ons to work for snacks and lunch. I sleep-walk in the mornings, you see.
And, what do I think of the NutriSystem food? Again, mostly really good — Yes, it’s prepackaged. But, it doesn’t have a lot of additives, and I’m pleased to see real sugar used in their products. After all the reading I’ve done lately about sugar substitute and insulin spikes, I was worried that NutriSystem would be full of aspartame. It isn’t. Also, the fat content… a shocking average of 33 grams a day. Most diets I’ve done in the past have been very low in fat, which left me feeling unsatisfied.
But, those mashed potatoes they package with the meatloaf. Those have got to go. Thankfully, I’m able to choose my own menu, and surprise, that particular meal won’t be on the list!
I totally love the chocolate crunch bars (real chocolate, just portioned for weight loss), and the lasagna is my favourite dinner so far. It didn’t take me long to get used to the “canned” packaging process of the foods (rather than frozen food, NutriSystem ships food which is “shelf stable”, meaning that it can all be stored and shipped at room temperature).
I’m also eating an abundance of fresh food — fruit and salads are a daily part of my diet now.
So, let’s see how week two goes!
