iPhone frustration!
I have a few complaints about my cellular service. First of all… The Fido system is horrifically bad. And, buggy. And, did I mention, BAD?
It often takes days for me to get voicemails that are left for me. If I see someone has called, I’ll often go in to see if I actually have a message, and almost every time I access my voicemail system I get an error.
I’m left thinking I have no messages, because none appear.
It’s extremely annoying. Support at Fido has been on it, but they can’t pinpoint the problem. They often blame it on my 3G service.
Which brings me to my other frustration. Holy SLOW data service on 3G. I’ve gotten really tired of that stupid circle re-drawing over and over trying to establish a connection.
And then, last night, my phone overheated and wouldn’t boot up again. Granted, I’d been talking for about 3 hours — But even when I plugged it in to charge, it wouldn’t turn on again. I tried it again this morning, and on it went.
ARGH.
Is it just my phone, or are other people having 3G and voicemail issues, too? How about you AT&T users? download lloyd dvd download The Tribe dvd
(I’m dying for a software unlock to be created so that I can use my phone with an AT&T sim card, but none have yet, sadly.)

Sorry for you.. AT&T has actually been quite good here in Illinois. I have download speads of 700k-1200k, upload of 100-300k. No problems with voicemails either. I do occasionally note the phone being somewhat warm, but have never had the issue you had with it not running.
There were quite a few issues for me with 2.0, but it is sheer PERFECTION since 2.1. True, i am a flaming apple fanboy, but with NO issues with the phone or my macbook pro or imac, why shouldnt i be!!
I picked up an iPhone from Fido in mid-September. For some reason, I decided I wouldn’t need 3G at the time. With that decision, I missed the super-cheap $30 for 6GB plan and am now tethered to a $30 1GB plan with the same complaints you have.
Buggy iPhone, crappy connection, and a sore realizing that it’s HARD to blog on a three inch screen.
Alas – there is always tweeting. Good old 140 characters don’t hurt nobody’s data plan.

P.S. Voicemail woes have been there since I switched over from Rogers. Rogers, I miss you!
P.P.S. I have had 35 minute wait times for a CSR without any response. Rogers, I REALLY miss you!

Its probably Fido, I have had endless problems with my wife’s plan. The customer service there is the worst I have ever come across.
No iPhone, no Fido, but I am on Rogers.
I recently made a trip to Europe and I had a solid 3G signal the entire time I was there (with a few acceptable exceptions). As soon as I landed in Toronto on the way home, I had a crappy signal again.
I generally get dropouts and the data connection frequently drops back down from Edge to GPRS. And when I’m in a 3G zone, I sure don’t get 3G speeds.
As much as I hate to say this… Rogers has been pretty good. From a phone service perspective, I’ve had no problems. From a data plan perspective, I thought G3 would be a little faster but overall, I can’t really complain.
From a hardware perspective, I never have to worry about my phone overheating because no one in their right mind would ever talk to me for 3 hours… And lord knows I can’t afford the 1-900 #’s for that long.

I agree, it must be fido, but possibly a lemon phone. I am on rogers and have had only 1 problem… twice i have lost connections within 3 seconds of dialing or recieving a call. this is due to network updates and is easily solved by resetting network in general settings. other than that it has worked fine. I am often heard saying “I love this phone”. I mean it, I really love this phone, the 3g network has been great, good connectivity, fast, precise, and decent support if i have a question. not sure why it is buggy with fido..but if you can switch…do it. Or maybe look into trading your phone in, could be hardware?
I can’t say I’m having all the problems you are having with Fido. I do get my voicemails, and I do see my missed calls perfectly. I do notice that 3G is definitely slower than being on wifi and I perfer to be on wifi where possible.
Like most computers, I like to reboot my iPhone every couple of days just to make sure everything is running smoothly.
After all the hassels you had just to get the iPhone, I’m sorry to hear that you are having such difficulty.

I’m sorry you’re having such bad luck with this damn iPhone. Maybe they’d exchange it?

That sucks… I thought Rogers and Fido use the same network?

Fido is a pile o’ doggie doo- I have the exact same problem I get messages days later(as you might remember!). Not good for business. I told them I was going to cancel my contract if it wasn’t fixed, lo’ and behold for a few months it was working awesome. Now, back to poop.
Tanya,
I’m assuming your iPhone software is up to date and you’re using the SIM card that Fido supplied and not your old one (if you were a previous Fido user before, can’t remember). If it’s not something to do on Fido’s end it’s likely the 3G and I think it’s safe to say the bigger the city the crappier the 3G service. Although being Vancouver you’d think Fido would have good coverage. When it comes to 3G data there’s no difference when it comes to Rogers and Fido.
I’ve talked on my phone for 3hrs and it did yet a bit hot but I also had it plugged into my PC the whole time to keep it charged so maybe it’s a bum unit? But my guess would be to check the firmware, you didn’t mention that in your post.
Good luck and enjoy the weekend.
I should have mentioned this in my prior post, but I was having sms-related issues eight months ago or so. It turned out that it was a bad sim that Rogers replaced free of charge. The strange thing was that these issues only showed up after I had been using the sim for many months. Your issues may be related.
