Growth and awareness…
I mentioned briefly on this blog a couple of weeks ago that I was making some changes and taking steps for growth in my personal life. I wanted to share with you all, my journey so far.
A couple of months ago, a personal coach, Jennifer Priest
Demon Seed on dvd
We had our initial call a couple of weeks ago. Jennifer wanted to review the areas that I felt I needed her guidance on, and we both wanted to see if we’d be the right fit to work together. During the call, it became clear that Jennifer was very good at what she does, as she guided me through the various issues I felt I needed to work on.
One thing became very obvious — Not only was she going to help me make some changes, but she was also going to make sure that I was accountable to myself and, by extension, to her to realize these changes.
I have now had two coaching calls with Jennifer — both dealing with quite different parts of my personal life that I need to address. The first call focused primarily on my singlehood situation, and what I was doing to find success with dating. I realized that I was making a whole lot of excuses to myself to avoid meeting new people, and Jennifer helped me create action steps to get out of the rut I was in.
The second call, yesterday, had me focusing on the hectic schedule I’ve created for myself, and trying to determine a way I could find personal time for myself over the next week — Because, not only do I have two urgent deadlines at work (which are critical, on top of a really busy time for us) but I also have six events (yes, six) over the next week, as well as an evening with a friend planned in the mix. Usually, when this has happened in the past, I start to melt-down half-way through the week, and become socially drained. But, during our call, Jennifer made me aware of how important it was to stop and take a few minutes in each day to step back, and take a breather. She’s even asked me to email her on Monday with my progress there… hehe.
So, what do I think of this new way to improve myself? I love it! I’m already seeing patterns that have changed for myself, and I know this learning curve will continue to bring me new ways to deal with some of the areas of growth for me.
Check back in about a week for the next installment!

Hey NetChick!
Good to see you last night and meet all sorts of great new people. Definitely a good time, although was out WAY past my bedtime. I’d already half-pumpkined by the end…. heh.
As far as your personal coaching goes, I commend you. Real personal change is scary stuff and requires great courage sometimes. I’ve been reflecting on similar things over the last few months, thanks to the change in my own personal situation. It’s interesting (and frustrating) how fear, pride, habit and feelings of low self-worth can all contribute to make change more difficult than it should otherwise be.
Go slow, be deliberate, make your changes sustainable. Listen carefully to those who offer advice and
suggestion, but remember that in the end you need to trust your own inner voice. That’s what I’m trying to do myself…

That is quite interesting. I’ve already done alot of personal changes from both physical to spiritual but it also nice to learn more on how to improve or change oneself positively more.

@Chris – Good to see you on Saturday night too! I’m still craving those goodies, and it’s now Monday morning… Darn you
Sounds like you are on a similar path to myself with regards to personal growth. Thanks for sharing here, and I agree 100% with your thoughts.
@Charles – I noticed your physical changes… You should be totally proud of your hard work (it’s certainly paying off) I think we all have areas of growth available to us, if we want to take the challenge. Keep up the awesome work, Charles!
This is great! I’ve been considering seeing a life coach for some time, and this will be a great resource for me! Thanks so much!

I’m interested to hear more about this! I honestly don’t know what a personal coach does (I’ve heard of them, but really don’t know what they are), so I’m looking forward to further installments!

@Thomas – Jennifer is great… Check out her site/blog!
@Beth – I’m looking forward to writing about my progress!
@David – Me too!
this sounds wonderful and just the right approach for you.
I did something similar when I was having difficulty choosing whether to go for a new, higher graded job at work or take redundancy. It really helped me, I decided to go for the job and was successful.
Which is why I am sitting here at work, writing this comment (tee hee).
It will be a great one to have a personal coach.
GMA had a segment I wrote about on grammology regarding saying no and it darn well fits with your hectic schedule. If you’d like to have me print this on grammology as a guest post and link back to you..send it via my email and we’ll put it up. Sounds like many of us need a coach to keep us on a healthy path to a happy life.
Let me know…this was a great start for you and will contribute to many of us thinking along the same lines. You know my email..

Inspiring, my friend. Not just that you took the step and made the call, but that you’ve chosen to share the experience as well. You’re doing good on so many levels, y’know.
Killing a fly, no big deal right.Well, at the meditation retreat I was not only in for a mind training but also encouraged to follow the Buddhist precepts of which one is saying something like,You shall not harm any living being.
