My personal coach is an enabler…

I mean that in the truest (and nicest) sense of the word!

I had another great call with Jennifer Priest

(my personal coach) the other day.

This time, we talked about goal setting, and decision making. Why? Because I was getting seriously caught up in the minutia of the details, rather than focusing on how the various things I was working towards made me feel.

Let me give you an example: I’ve been wanting to purchase a new (used) car… An Audi TT, to be precise.

Audi Quattro TT Convertible

This car is on my dream board that I created recently at Jennifer’s prodding. But, this isn’t a passing fancy. I’ve been talking about this for years — Even though Vern insists that this model of car is only driven by female lawyers. I didn’t care. I like cars, especially gorgeous sports cars, like the TT Quattro.

No. I won’t be spending $68,000 on a new one; as much as I like nice things, I’m also incredibly frugal. I’m happy with one that is a few years old.

So, here lies the problem I was having. The purchase of this car would set some other goals back a bit (and some things quite a bit). And, I was getting frustrated with the inability to rationalize my options, despite putting them down on paper. That’s where the lovely Jennifer came in! She asked me a series of questions… then, after hearing about the pyramid of items I wanted to accomplish, talked me down from thinking that going ahead with one item was going to topple down the rest of my plans.

Basically, she made me realize that some of the other items stressed me out far more than they’d bring me reward. Once I realized this, I knew some of the other items could safely be pushed off the grid for a while, giving me a chance to see where the economy was going before I decided on the larger plan.

Once I heard it out loud, and Jennifer helped me see the bigger picture for what it was, I was able to easily realize that this car purchase wasn’t going to “ruin” any of my other plans… And the car would bring me a great deal of happiness.

And now? I’m on the hunt for a reasonably-priced Audi TT Quattro! I’m pre-approved by my bank at an extremely reasonable rate, so it’s just a matter of finding the right car. Thanks for helping me see things clearly, Jennifer!

Make sure to get a bike rack for it (very very important….)! ;-)

I’m pretty sure Jennifer Preist works part time at an Audi dealership.

I thought you might want to know that. Sales people can be sneaky.

  • @Patricia — err, ya… That’d be a no on that ;) I’ll ride my bike directly. LOL

@Shnewt — Y’know. That makes perfect sense! Heheh… No wonder. [grin] Seriously, though, Jennifer really did take the stress out of the decision. I can’t wait to be driving around in that. I’ve missed my Lexus (aka submarine) SC400 for years now.

Damn, if only I knew this a month ago. Could’ve set you up with a low mileage one for a very reasonable price. One of my co-workers was selling HIS(not a female lawyer Vern. :P )

He ended up selling it to our office ninja, he’s loving the car now.
