You’re one of those people now!
I took delivery on Saturday morning of my new (to me) convertible! As predicted in my previous entry, the “Chicklette” is a silver Audi TT Quattro (AWD) convertible Roadster. When I was signing the papers for the purchase at a used car lot in Burnaby, it was probably one of the most miserable days, weather-wise. I haven’t seen it rain that hard, with lightening to boot, in a long time.
But, just as soon as I signed my life away, the clouds parted, and the sun came out…
The car hadn’t been aircared when I wanted to bring it home on Friday evening, so I had to wait until Saturday morning to take delivery. The sales guy was in a hurry when he dropped her off, so I didn’t get to ask a few questions that had popped up overnight… Like, where was the CD changer that was advertised mounted? And, how do I go about getting a manual? (I searched online for a digital version, and I couldn’t find one…)
Gus and I immediately had to take her out for a spin Saturday afternoon… So we went around town, where I immediately noticed a 3rd gear clunking noise (which I wasn’t made aware of when I had a mechanic review the car for defects). It was a beautiful sunny day, and of course we had the top town… I had checked the gas level before we left, and it showed a quarter of a tank — I had decided I’d fill up at Chevron on the other side of Stanley Park. Except… We didn’t make it that far. Just as we were passing Lost Lagoon, the car sputters out and stalls. Ack. So much for an accurate gas gauge. We were out of gas.
So, the beautiful drive turned into a trek to the gas station to get a gas can and a couple of litres of premium gas to get the car back to the station. At least it was just out of gas, and nothing more severe. (I’ve had cars die the first day I have had them before… Not fun!)
Later that evening, I took Miranda
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock release Chicken Little move Looney Tunes: Back in Action full movie
10 Things I Hate About You movie out for a spin, and one of the first things she said? “You know you are one of “those people” now” — referring to the fact that I had the top down and the Bose stereo up. Hey… It wasn’t THAT loud.
Next purchase? Over-sized sunglasses and a scarf. On the highway, my hair flies EVERYWHERE with the top down! (thank goodness I had a hair elastic with me)

Hopefully spring comes soon so you can enjoy fully being one of “those people”!

What a cool experience for you…can’t wait to see more pics. There’s something joyous about dropping the top and cranking the tunes. Alas, they don’t make convertible minivans. So for now, I’m stuck with the sunroof. But that’s enough to get a smile on my face – and a memory for our kids that their parents still had some spirit in ‘em!
Enjoy the drive, m’friend.

Nice car!
Not just for female lawyers… this very male writer’s ego wouldn’t suffer in the slightest if one were to come his way. And some day, one just might…

Your sunroof experience made me smile. And you gotta know there’s more photos coming of the “chicklette” hehe!
@Gus – sunscreen… check!!! (you too!)
@Patricia – hehe. Uh, Miranda had to hear me giggle for over an hour during our ride (actually, so did Gus)
@The Jerk – LOL. Ya, just wait til I get the vanity plate first. Then my car will really get the “attention” (read: baseball bats and graffiti)
@Thomasso – Yep, it’s been my dream car for a long time… And, thanks
@Mike – I agree. I’m a marketing girl, and I think I look good in it! You should totally get one!
@Michelle – I’m glad I’m not the only one
I LOVE that car, too. Yay! (pat, pat to the Hyundai, though)
i think goggles and driving gloves would be a good idea too. will you have guest drivers , so they can help you write reviews? Hope you have fun and stay safe. Many sunny days wished for you, BRAT! hehe

Just remember :
It is a mortal sin against the Spirit of the Original Model T to drive a convertible with the top up when the sun is visible.
