Adventures in packing and purging
On Friday I’m taking delivery of my moving crates, and for some weird reason, when I made the order yesterday for those, everything became very real.
I’m actually moving.

I know that sounds weird… But, this whole thing has felt pretty surreal to me; probably because of the very short time frame between choosing to buy a home, to actually taking possession. From start to finish, it’ll be about 3 weeks.
But, these days, when I choose to do something, it gets done.
I have decided that once I get back from my trip, there’s no point in living in limbo any longer, so I’ll be moving within a day or two of my return. So, this means that I have to be fully packed before I go.
There are advantages to this — Primarily, my landlord will be bringing people through my home while I’m away (I TOTALLY HATE THAT… But, I don’t want to pay another month of rent if I don’t have to) and I don’t want things disturbed when I’m not there. If everything is in boxes, it’s far more secure.
And, second, a mid-month move saves me a fair amount with movers, as it’s their off-peak time.
And finally, moving sooner rather than later gives me time to leisurely clean, and get my old apartment in good shape for a full return of my damage deposit.
I’m looking at the bright side of the moving hassle — Despite hating this part of this adventure, it’ll be good motivation to get rid of a lot of stuff I don’t need. If it doesn’t fit into the plastic moving boxes, it’s not coming to my new home. One thing I don’t have a lot of in my new place is storage.

Boy, this is it! The “Final Move.” No more apartments, landlords with their rules, just you at home. Enjoy the trip, and remember when you move that will be it for, hopefully, a long, long time.
Oh, wait till you start lugging all those crates up in the elevator–then it becomes painfully real. Heh Heh
I am so happy for you!

It’s a good feeling to know that you are not going to move for a while (unless you buy a bigger place). One year I moved like 4 times within an 8 months period – moving from university rez back home, moving from home to Germany, moving from Germany to home, then moving back to rez. It sucked!

@Harry – Heh. Very funny… I’ll be walking that puppy over. I don’t trust anyone with my tv!
@Tod – Thanks! I did end up in 1808 of your old building. I think I’ll be good with the packing, and I’m leaving the day I get my keys for the cruise, so the food will not be replenished until the move
hehe…
I know
LOL… that’s why I emailed you a couple of weeks ago about it! Heh!
