Renos offline, and online
Hello from my own personal IKEA warehouse… Otherwise known as my condo.
I had another 59 boxes delivered yesterday, and they’re all stacked in my bedroom. Why? Because my kitchen is in my living room.
Yes, you read that right…
My fridge is actually sitting beside my 52″ tv at the moment. That’s because it was sitting in the middle of the kitchen (as it wouldn’t fit into the space for the old fridge) and I needed to make room for the IKEA delivery guys to get the new boxes in the house.
And, those boxes will stay there for the next week or so, because this weekend, we are deconstructing the ghetto kitchen, and installing the new IKEA one that is currently residing in pieces in my livingroom.
Following along so far?
The 59 boxes that were delivered the other day consist primarily of the livingroom built-in wall unit, which will house Barry’s 46″ tv (which just happens to be the smaller version of my top-of-the-line Sharp) and everything else that won’t fit into the *1* closet we have for two people in 745 sf.
So, the wall unit will be set up most likely next weekend, and then I’ll be in urgent need of selling my 52″ tv and stand. It’s going to be a fabulous deal for anyone interested in a big, high-end tv! Comment or email me if you are interested!
And… for the online part of the renos — Thank you to everyone who sent me an email recently advising me of an issue with commenting on certain browsers. I’ll be flipping this site to a basic template until I can finish my custom template in short order. So, don’t freak out when you get here in the next few days, and it doesn’t look like my site
Comments are important to me, not to mention, critical to the MEET n’ GREET, so I’ll make this change quickly!
Wish us luck with all the work ahead of us this weekend! And… also, what are you looking forward to, this long weekend?
Me? Besides the new kitchen being *mostly* completed (other than the countertops/sink which will be another few weeks) we’ve got our engagement party this weekend! YAY!

59 boxes!! Good grief! I imagine the engagement party is not at your place. I still remember the horror of kitchen renovations. And mine was done in 1985. I still remember my living space being reduced to a few square feet do to all the boxes everywhere.
You know, since you are redoing the kitchen… and building a full wall unit… why not go with a whole new bedroom redesign.
I’ll be spending the long weekend doing home reno’s as well – restoring a 100-year old Vancouver house. If you want to feel slightly better about the state of your home, check out the state of mine – http://www.sfu.ca/~hillman/ourhouse/
And if you’re really bored, you can always read the blog about it – http://stevehillman.blogspot.com
Enjoy your reno’ing weekend (and your party
)
IKEA rocks!
@Sarcasmom – You got that right, the engagement party is at a local restaurant… Should be a blast! I’m glad you survived your reno way back when!
@shnewt – funny you should mention that! The bedroom is next, actually. (not much to do there, other than to build the matching desk for B, and get some IKEA storage for clothes) …And then the bathroom.
@Steve – Wow, that sounds like a really rewarding project. How cool… Have a great time. It looks like a lot of work!
@Teena – Agreed! At least, it’s saving us a fortune!
Wow, a small condo with two large screen TVs! I have almost 3000 feet and finally got a 42 inch flat screen. May you enjoy settling in and your new life together.
