Why can’t technology catch up?

[RANT] I’ve been running into a lot of roadblocks at work for the past several weeks, because technology hasn’t caught up to the needs of today’s multimedia streaming, and demand for targeted content.

Talk about this being a source of on-going frustration for me.

In general terms… geo-targeting content doesn’t work well, and analytics for streaming media is basically non-existent. And, when you work with media brands, these things are mandatory tools of the trade. [/RANT]

Who’s with me, here?

I’m with ya! Stupid geo-targeting analiptus streaming thingys are bad! I just wish I knew what it was… ;) I’m with you in spirit, at least. I love it when you get technical. xoxo

They SO need to break the wall between coding and design… there are so many issues when it comes to streaming… the first one being geo-blocking is considered by the online community as an attent to Net Neutrality and the work arounds are countless… Furthermore, the tracking of streams is just wacked and not working, except if you have a network like Echelon, the data you get is not true and is tainted by bouncing IPs etc…

This was supposed to be the future but if they can’t even make flying cars how can they track people watching live streams???

Well said. Much as we wish it would, technology never races ahead in a uniform manner. This leaves some pieces woefully outclassed as we try to deliver entire projects.

The nice thing is that time eventually fills in the gaps. Unfortunately we don’t always HAVE enough time to wait.

    Either way, you’re not alone.

    Happy New Year,

100% Agreed. Analytics are sorely lacking; they’ve fed us the proverbial “pipe dream” regarding geo-location [they need to save us some of whatever-the-hell they were smokin']; vendor support typically amounts to “please let us know how you managed to get that fixed ok, so we can pass your solution along to our other clients who are having the same issues”; most of their product documentation doesn’t even provide basics, like maybe user-defined port ranges and handshake protocol [Doh!]… …but, in their defence, the vendor will happily fly one of their techno-weenies out, to set these sevices up for you [for *ahem* a small fee, of course].

Can you spell E-P-I-C F-A-I-L people?

you guys are why the web is the way it is.

you probably got into the web when you saw $$$ or potential chats.

honestly it should have been left the way it was for information not marketing.

am I with you more like could you even be with me if you tried.

if your content don’t match your clients learn some perl.

netchick my ass more like advertising wanabe.

  • Wow. A manners course might be your next stop, there, arcnet. You have no idea what I do for a living… And, of course there are elements of advertising/marketing in my career.

If you had something intelligent to say, perhaps we’d be listening.

Gotta love trolls. I haven’t had one here in a while.
