The big news… The next chapter begins!
This chick is moving… to Calgary!
I gave my notice at work this morning, although the exact end date is still undetermined… it’s about a month off. Barry got a job offer with his previous employer, and it was a position that suited him perfectly. How could we not go? Calgary is a city that has always intrigued me, and although isn’t filled with the green and the forests, nor the ocean right down the road, it does have a ton more sunshine, a vibrant cultural community, and seems to be a great place to start our lives as a newly married couple.
When I told my boss this morning, he was in shock. I think he asked me at least five times if I was sure I wanted to leave all this in Vancouver, for Calgary. I unequivocally said I was.
And, I am.
I am going to miss my friends and family dearly, but as I said to my step-mom last night on the phone, Calgary is an hour away by plane, which is actually less time than it takes to drive to deep dark Langley in rush hour traffic. (Sorry, guys, but Langley is pretty far away… I used to live there, so I’d know)
Barry came by my office to take me to lunch, and as I was walking him back to his truck, reality hit me. I almost couldn’t breath. Tears streamed down my face. And, for those of you who know me, this is completely out-of-character for me. It’s not the first time I’ve made a move like this — I literally dropped everything here, and moved to Los Angeles back in 2000. It was a tough time, but that time, I was just getting out of a 13 year marriage, and needed to re-invent myself. This time, I’m embarking on an adventure with my supportive and loving significant other by my side… I’m far more vulnerable this time, because Barry has a job, and I do not, but I know that is only temporary.
Everything will work out, and this is going to be the most incredible change and adventure I’ve ever had.
Bring it on!

Wow big decision but it’s good that you’re following your heart and making the big decision.
We’re all going to miss you here in Vancouver.
Whoa. That is brave! So exciting to think of all the possibilities that await you in Calgary! Any ideas on what you would like to do on the job front in Alberta?
Thanks all
It’s definitely a huge change, and I’m really sad to be leaving so many great people behind here in this awesome city.
Colette, that’s still up in the air… More as I move to the new city, though! Things are in the works
Best of luck, and I hope you are really successful in finding a job and getting settled quickly, congratulations on your marriage.

What exciting news! I’m really excited for both of you. New chapters in life are scary and exhilarating at the same time and I think this is a great way to start your new married life.
CONGRATS TO BOTH OF YOU!
Barry’s previous employer obviously knew a good thing when they saw it… …as did you….
Some sage advice going forward….
There are no wrong decisions in this life – every decision you make will be the right decision, at the time, given the circumstances before you… …only in hindsight can you judge the validity of your decision.
A Jewish friend of mine have a great saying for times like this:
L’Chaim (pronounced la-Hi’-eem; literally a toast “to life!”)
All the very best you two!

Pssst – you might need to speed up those condo renos…. ;^P
Of course I am happy and excited for you but the Jman and I are really going to miss your closeby friendship and the fun poker games.
Tanya – I’m the Calgary welcoming committee. Don’t worry, lots of great people here, and you already buds with Jeff. Looking forward to meeting you!
Your ability to live life and not just travel through it is inspiring. We’re all stronger for being a part of it, and we’re thrilled for you as you take this exciting step.

Hey get’n outta Doge, I think is a wise move.
I’m really happy for you guys, although I never met you personally, I will miss the Vancouver updates. And although I have lived in “Deep Dark Langley,” myself for nearly fifteen years now, it will also be my turn too to stage exit left. I have Seven more months before I must start thinking about moving.
I wish you all well on the move to Calgary! At least your Blog is a click away.
Cheers!

Good luck in Calgary! I enjoy travelling there from Edmonton, when I can. If you ever miss the mountains, they’re not really that far away from Calgary either. That’s one thing I do miss about BC.

Good luck in your new adventure! When Carmi was transferred to London from Montreal it was hard to move 9 hours away (by car) from our families but together we would enjoy the ride. It’s 13 years later and we are still enjoying the adventure!

We promise to take good care of Tanya & Barry when they arrive in Calgary. Soon they too will be raving about all the sunshine and wicked slopes / real snow just an hour west in the Rockies
