We chose well in Auburn Bay
I’ve been thinking about doing this post for a while now, and it’s finally time! I wanted to tell you about the community of Seton that is blossoming right across the street from our home in Auburn Bay. It’s pretty exciting! The “South Health Campus” (aka the new hospital in Calgary) will be opening it’s first phase in about a month’s time, and ground has now broken on a number of retail areas of the new neighbourhood, just steps from our home.
I’m so excited about the possibilities that this new community offers the residents of Auburn Bay, especially those right across the street from the new hospital like our home is. Several major retail outlets have already signed on to move into Seton, including BMO Bank of Montreal (can you guess which branch I’m hoping to build my career in?) and that’s so exciting!
Here’s a map of the new community… Our home is literally right across the road from the top centre of the map:

Here’s a flyover to give you a better idea of what’s percolating nearby… To put this in context, the large building that is highlighted in blue is the new hospital, and we’re right across the road from that.
And, one more interesting video from before our home was actually built (yet, it almost looks like our home is featured – one of the houses looks identical to ours – colour and all – as they round the first corner of the main gate… we back onto the main boulevard here in Auburn Bay). We live about a block from the lake, which Barry and I definitely need to use more! (ps: have I mentioned I love our street? We have the most awesome neighbours!!)
So. Much. Potential! It’s worth all this dust currently being pushed around, for the final features of the Seton Community only steps from our home.
YOUR TURN: Would you buy a home based on potential neighbourhood features, years away?

Yes, and that’s exactly how a lot of real estate speculation happens in Vancouver (which I’m sure you recognized when you were still here). I’m seeing a lot of development in the Burquitlam/Lougheed kind of area in anticipation of the Evergreen Line, for example.

Not in Calgary. The big fields near our home were slated as schools in the display centers. They’re not getting built. So many promised very little follow through in this city. The city planning is terrible. That said, if I had te capital I would be buying condos in the east village all day long. Big flip potential there.
Yep, that’s one of the main reasons why we bought where we did (New Westminster). Our property has seen ridiculous increases in value over the past four years.
Test!
one more test of the new comment system…
and a reply…
Okay! New comment system setup! (first time I’ve messed with the comment system since migrating to wordpress in 2002 or so… so, have patience, peeps! I have well over15000 entries to import to Disqus!) If you’ve commented on this site in the past few hours, it’ll take a day to appear, so bear with me.
Looking forward to the power of Disqus to empower communication here! Yay!
Isn’t it always exciting and nerve wracking at the same time moving in to a new neighborhood? Back when I was a kid, my family would always move from one house to another because of my father’s job. I hope you’ll have fun!
I hear ya, Lisa – I became a pro at moving and integrating as a kid. I went to 11 different schools as a child! It became an artform!
I’ve turfed Disqus – couldn’t get my old comments to import properly, so forget it… I gave it two tries, and then gave up.
I’ve resorted to other measures to reduce comment spam. Thanks for your patience guys!
