OHMYGOSH, I think I’m nearly fully back in action here!
I wanted to yack today about a new service that I’ve been using for the past month, and I have to say, I’m a FAN-GIRL! Even if they hadn’t sponsored this post, I would have written about Next Issue Canada, because I think their service is terrific! (But thank you so much for sponsoring – it helps support the costs of this blog and my magazine addiction!).
The issue I have with magazines, generally speaking, are two-fold. The cost gets extreme when you are an ravenous reader like I am, and I hate lugging a bunch of issues around – especially on vacation when I actually have time to catch up on them. So, when I heard Next Issue was coming to Canada, I was super excited.
It’s like a NetFlix subscription for magazines! You get unlimited access to over 100 of the world’s best magazines on your tablet or phone starting at just $9.99/per month! Sweet! For less than the cost of two magazines per month, I get access to over 100? Plus, back issues? Wow!
Here’s a few highlights of articles I’m reading at the moment…
allRecipes has a great article on Slow Cooker Meals that really appealed to me. Slow Cooker BBQ Ribs? Oh hell, ya! I’m going to have to try that one! I love this magazine, because I use the site all the time, and this gives me great ideas for recipes I hadn’t thought of. Think of it like a spotlight and hint guide to the site. It’s really great!
Okay, everyone knows I’m in love with travelling. And, Barry and I have a European adventure coming up in a few months – this cover grabbed me right away! Conde Nast Traveler August 2013 issue had an overview of cruiseliners, as well as the two-tiered travel options (VIP vs. Standard) that we really liked from past cruises. (ie: Spa Class on Celebrity… we noticed a stark difference between these two levels of cruising on the same ship, but didn’t know that other lines had similar options!)
Yay! I’ve been a legacy magazine subscriber to Oprah for years, and was starting to get really frustrated with all the copies laying around the house I forget to read. You can imagine my joy when I saw I could get this magazine with my Next Issue Canada Subscription! This particular issue had a really great article highlighting Martha Beck and self-sabotaging. I’ve been an expert at that in the past, and the article gave some great insight!
The February 2014 issue of Wired had me particularly intrigued. I haven’t opened a Wired Magazine in years (I’ve got to draw the line somewhere with my physical magazine purchases!) but now that I can read it on my iPad, I’m delighted. Who wouldn’t be intrigued by a tagline “How one man hacked OKCupid to find the girl of his dreams.” – You had me at hacked, hehe. Having been single by choice for many years, and using the online dating sites such as this one, it was definitely an interesting read! (Do you miss my single girl posts? Read back on my blog! [grin])
I’ve subscribed to the MoneySense magazine for years, primarily because planning is a passion of mine (obviously) and I want to know what my clients are reading and getting their investing ideas from. The current issue has a “Simple Guide to Buying Bonds” which I found particularly interesting, mostly because bonds are a mystery to most laymen out there, and this article did a great job of summing up the details of bond-buying quite well.
